Yeah probably , plus there was an advert for the next episode on sky afterwards. It was only for a couple of seconds but it showed ----- stop reading now if you don't want to know --- it showed syid and co. on the helicopter in very bad conditions.

Isn't next weeks episode focused on...

Desmond

?

Has potential.

What was the book that Locke wanted Ben to read again incase he'd missed something the first time round?

Valis by Philip K. Dick

Wikipedia -

"VALIS is a 1981 science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick. The title is an acronym for Vast Active Living Intelligence System, Dick's gnostic vision of one aspect of God."

And surely they would have heard from the chopper sooner that expected if time travels faster off the island?

No, again that's the wrong way around. Time moving slower on the island would mean the helicopter is delayed in reaching the boat, because time for the boat is passing by more quickly (ie. more time has passed for them, less time for the island/helicopter - until it reaches them).

But then, the projectile fired at the beacon last episode should have arrived earlier, not later. So I'm assuming time is messed up in not such a simple way.

It's very confusing, because if time is being experienced at a different rate on the boat and island (which doesn't really make sense as the voices over the sat phones should sound distorted to the other party), then the people on the boat have been hanging around for aaaages.

From the boat's perspective, the chopper would be delayed, but the islanders contacting the boat to check on its progress would also come much later than the boat people expect. In fact they should all be sitting on the boat wondering what the hold-up is. The chopper should have 'sped up' (in terms relative to the island) as it got further away from the island.

I think you're missing the point. The people on the island would have been suprised at how quickly the helicopter got to the them. For the most part of the journey, the people on the island and the people on the helicopter would experiencing time at the same rate. Now, assuming that time moves faster the further away from the island you are, as the helicopter approached the boat, time would begin to speed up. The people on the helicopter wouldn't notice obviously but the people on the island would.

In conclusion, the people on the boat would be wondering why the helicopter is taking so long. The people on the island would be suprised by how quick it was. However, as the islanders are wondering where the hell the helicopter is, we can assume it didn't get there.

Of course, the 2 parties having real time conversations kind of makes the whole thing impossible. There would be a massive delay.

er, I probably should have read your post before adding my 2 cents. As my 2 cents were exactly the same as your 2 cents. Ho hum.

What would happen if Dan asked Regina what time it was while talking to her on the SAT phone?

She'd say something interesting with out answering properley and then say "Stop waisting my time" so as to give a half answer, half question. Thus, the story keeps marching forward.

Quite right.

Perhaps there is a ring or aura of SlowTime surrounding the island, and everything that passes through it slows down, hence the projectile taking longer, the helicopter taking longer. But time inside and outside of the aura is the same speed, hence realtime communication.

Although if Walt appears older, he must've been through a different aura of FastTime. :(

Hmmm I'll give you a point for that, but the correct answer is...

He would NEVER ask that.

Hmm, quite possible. Likely even. Would explain why they had to go on a certain bearing (the weakest point in the field). I suppose, like a magnetic field, there would be a possitve and a negative side, with 2 sweet spots at either end where the 2 sides cancel each other out.

I like your thinking.

Would the communications still not have to go through this aura of SlowTime™ despite being radiowaves and hence causing a huge fuck off delay on the phone?

Aren't they communicating via a satellite phone though? So any signals go up and then down the other side of the SlowTime aura, rather than through it. Hmmm, it's somewhat confusing to say the least.

I suppose it would be relative. At the speed radio waves travel and given that boat can't be more than 10 or 20 miles away, even if they were slowed down a thousand times, they'd still arrive pretty instantaneously.

Also, are we saying it slows time down or how fast something moves? If it's time is it not irrelevant how fast it moves because a delay of say 10, 20 or whatever minutes is being put on it?

EDIT: IGNORE! Perfect example of why you should think before you type!

A thousand what times though? Milliseconds? That would cause a delay that didn't seem to be there when they were on the phone.

Well, as I say, it would be relative. So the radio waves would slow down. Erm, say if a shell took 1 minute to travel the distance to the ship normally. With our new time barrier idea, everything would say, take, take 10 times longer. So now it would actually take 10 minutes. With radio waves, they'd only take like, what? 1 nano second to cover that distance normally maybe? So now they would take 10 nano seconds. In other words, they'd still be instantaneous. So if a helicopter set off at 100mph and then an hour later you sent some radio signals, then the radio signals would overtake the helicopter on route to the ship.

I know that sounds a bit odd but think of it this way. If you send a space ship to mars, then 4 months later send some radio signals to Mars. The radio signals would still get there first.

Wormhole?

That's kinda what I've been thinking.

There's a bit of evidence to back it up too:

In the Orchid Orientation video Marvin Candle says "The unique properties of this Island created a kind of Casimir effect, allowing us to..."

Wiki says "the Casimir effect can be used to produce a locally mass-negative region of space-time, and suggested that negative effect could be used to stabilize a wormhole to allow faster than light travel."

Ties in.

Because Locke had the last 2 eggs at the start. You know, like a one horse town, but instead of a horse, it's 2 eggs. Hence the name.

Which was another weird point because a few moments later he had blood on his hand after killing a chicken. Did Locke know they were the last two eggs because he was about to kill the last chicken (which seems like an odd thing to do) or was the line about the chicken a cover and the blood was from something/someone else?

I thought the blood was from where he had been punching the wall.

Surely the reason they're so famous is because they hadn't aged. Hence everyone being so freaked about them.... but then... Ana Lucia's partner hadn't aged all that much. Neither had Kate's mum.

Hmmmph.

how much have you aged since 2004? not that much if you were an adult surely

I think everyone (in the Lost universe) knows that Aaron is not Kate’s baby.

When Kate’s lawyer was discussing her defence, he wanted to bring the baby in to it. I presumed he meant it as ‘look at how caring this woman is, she has taken it upon herself to raise this baby of her co-survivor’. That would mean Claire is 1 of the 8 but not the 6.
