Lost - The Full Series Thread

Why do some people find the need to state that they think the writers are just making it up as they go along. From what I have gathered they created a beginning and an end but I guess getting to that end wasn't mapped out. Though I have complete faith that they always knew how the show would end up, that's why they pushed so hard to get the studio to finish up on six seasons.

Me too - they've stated how much is planned on the podcasts before. Yet a couple of times each page people say they're making it all up!

This latest episode sounds a bit mad.

nforce are reporting that the group 'OTV' release is out of sync for the last segment of the show. Get the group '2HD' one instead.

Exactly my point.

They are winging it from episode to episode. Pointless filler episodes, pointless filler characters and slow moving storylines (see nearly the entirety of season 2 and season 3) annoyed the fuck out of me. You could have told the story so far in just one or maybe one and a half seasons at the most.

At least with this series it seems (so far) to be a more coherent and faster paced storyarc, one good side effect of the writers prior knowledge of the then impending strike. However, now they have commissioned another 5 episodes I'm sure they'll fluff it out to string it out even more than they already have.

The post-strike episodes are the other 8 episodes we were meant to have anyway, but condensed to 5 eps.

Yeah I know that, but I also seem to remember reading somewhere they didn't know when the strike was going to end and so actually condensed 16 episodes worth of plot advances without the filler into the first 8 apparently with a series end style cliffhanger for ep8.

But they already changed and edited a couple of the recent episodes to string it out a little more now that they know they have (at least) 13 episodes (which I'd wager they will increase back to 16 over the next couple of weeks) so be prepared to see a couple of episodes that focus on the extraneous characters that will invariably be killed, return or 'go missing' before the end of this 'half-series'.

Fuck! What a headfuck of an episode!

So we know time is fucked up. We know the electro-magnetism is fucking people up.

I'm quite at a loss. That was just an ace episode.

Also

remember Desmond's flashback in season 3, where he goes back to his past but can't change anything. At the start of the episode he swims out into the ocean to rescue Claire. Does anyone think that that episode was a milder version of this one?

Fantastic episode, best one in a while for me. I quite like that they're answering some of the questions still plenty more left and you know the answers will only raise more.

Has there been any mention about trading or pirate ships before? It seemed a bit more than a coincidence that Penny's father bought a long lost never before read journal from someone whose ship went missing in a similar area to the island.

Well it was the journal from the pirate ship on the island wasn't it?

It was an ok episode I guess. Danny is great if you ask me.

so now maybe we know what Jack feels so guilty about- they found a way off the island that killed most of the people with them - maybe its killing them too, which is why Jack at the end of S3 was telling Kate they need to get back to the island?

The Jim Robinson bit was a nice tie-in too.

Yeah you're right, I'd completely forgotten about that ship. Think I'm going to have to re-watch or read up on the first couple of seasons, so long since I've seen them. Still, raises some more interesting questions and possible answers.

Fuck me! I totally missed that part.

GREAT episode! I'm never gonna feel satisfied that they answered ALL the questions I somehow feel, but things are starting to take more shape.

No doubt the seller of the journal will also prove to be pertinent – Tovard Hanso, one of the few people to know the contents of the journal. Or at least it sounded like he said Hanso, I could be wrong.

That was his name alright.

That episode was easily one of my favourites so far.

The way the story played out was incredible, I was totally gripped from start to finish.

And they've made proper actual contact now with the outside world. (Without dying a few minutes later).

Ok I've calmed down a bit. For me that was the best episode of all the seasons (except the pilot perhaps), I was just in awe at how we were given straight answers about time and distorted perceptions of it. I love how they've made it so only the consciousness travels through time, not the body. Butterfly Effect, anyone?

Brilliant episode.

Re: the ending.

Was it meant to be somehow shocking that Desmond was Dannys constant? Seemed like a standard practical thing to me and not something to have a cliffhanger on.

The ending wasn't so much about the

fact that Desmond is Danny's constant, it's more revealing that Danny couldn't remember writing that note, and the past can be changed, which is a massive, massive thing.

I loved the little easter egg they stuck in there about the Black Rock and Tovard Hanso, all the more interesting how Penny's father Widmore was there to claim the book. To find out new secrets, or to preserve the secret?

It's also important to note that this can happen to anyone that's been exposed to high levels of electromagnetism, Locke was also in the Swan when it exploded, so perhaps when he crosses the "snowglobe" the same thing will happen to him.

Or - crazy thought - upon crashing on the Island, all our losties have been jumping back and forth between their past and present in their flashbacks, but their level of radiation is weaker than Desmonds, so they don't realise they're actually living the past again as opposed to just remembering it. What if Ben brought Locke's dad to the Island because Locke needed his constant to survive? It explains why pretty much every character (except the one's that have died) have run into someone off the Island in their flashbacks as well as met them on the Island.

It also ties in with Charlie's "I am dead, but I am also here." speech with Hurley. If you die on the Island, does your conscience remain free to travel to the past? Whispers on the Island?

I was thinking the same things, Mercanarri.

What we think were flashbacks were no such things, but people leaping back and forth in time. Which is pretty fucking interesting if correct.

As for Charlie though... Not sure that works, because he visited Hurley in the future, not the past.
