Lost - The Full Series Thread

Was it meant to be somehow shocking that Desmond was Dannys constant? Seemed like a standard practical thing to me and not something to have a cliffhanger on.

Remember when he went back and said to 1996 Danny that 2004 Danny didn't remember meeting him in 1996? That was Dannys journal, with proof that they did meet back in 1996.

the lost conundrum is based on this?

Time and space are "root assumptions" of this plane of existence; i.e., they are essentially illusory, and both the past and future coexist with the present in what Seth referred to as the "spacious present". Therefore, a person's incarnations in different time periods are actually lived simultaneously, as opposed to consecutively. Communication among the various past, present and future selves occurs during the dream state. Time appears to exist in a linear form because of limitations inherent in the physical human brain. Development, expansion, growth and change do not require time in order to occur.

As soon as Desmond started "leaping" I was dissapointed. Mainly due to the fact that its become totally clear that they had no idea where they were going with the story and this "new development" is totally tacked on.

It's all bollocks.

Beard?

Erm. Halfway through season 2, Ben said "God doesn't know how long we've been here...", which is linked to the time difference. And Des' jumping between times originally happened at the beginning of series three. They do seem to know what they're doing, if you ask me.

I'd be highly surprised if this is the last we'll ever hear of the 'time travel' issue.

Wow, what a fucking episode. Love this season. I'm trying to process everything but I need time.

Oh and it does seem that it's Christmas eve in the real world but not on the island. I knew they'd have to throw in that it's Christmas somehow.

I dunno about that. The islanders are meant to be up to Christmas Eve, right? I thought the calendar on the wall signified the time that had passed on the island but not in the real world. Which is why the dates were crossed out.

Did Desmond remember the last eight years in the end? I didn't quite catch the exchange between him and Sayid.

Well Jack said they've spent 100 days on the island, though lostpedia says that Kate's episode happened on Christmas day and boxing day. I have no idea really, it's far too confusing.

So no one mention yet that:

Charlie is still alive. How the fuck does that one work.

Pretty sure Penny was referring to the brief conversation she had with him before he died. I was thinking along the same line as you as I watched it, mainly because the episode to that point had pummeled me into a giddy suggestive pulp

Still...amazing episode. Maybe my favourite so far!

Random thoughts based on the new episode:

So, at the very end we learn that events in the past can alter the present. This would explain how in the flash-forward at the end of S3, everyone talks about Jack's father in the present tense - Jack somehow manipulates the past so his father didn't die. Could this be Jack's reason for abandoning the rest on the island? Someone promises to bring his dad back if he leaves.

Also, at the end of S2, the Others keep referring to the fact that Walt is 'special.' Can he project himself through time? That would explain why Shannon kept seeing him at the beginning of S2 and why Locke saw him at the end of S3.

Hurley saw Charlie alive at the beginning of S4 - someone altered history again, but for some reason Hurley remembers the old timeline.

Could Libby be somehow manipulating Hurley and Desmond in the past as she knows what's in store for them? She gave Desmond the boat and was watching Hurley in the mental home. Maybe she works for Dharma and manouvered the pieces into place knowing the future outcome.

At the beginning of S4 they excavated a polar bear. Maybe a time travelling polar bear?!? :(

Some of that is pretty bizarre, but it would go a long way to explaining many little mysteries.

They've also always been very clear in saying when you're dead in Lost, you're dead. No coming back.

Here's a thought though:

The rat in the maze went forward in time, right? What if, all these episodes, these flash forward episodes are actually their consciousnesses flashing forward to a possible future. You can't change the past, fair enough, but you can change the future. Maybe they've never left the island. Maybe some people are just seeing what would happend if they did...

Could Kate's story could have happened simultaneously with this weeks? My brain hurts.

Fantastic fantastic episode. Daniel is a great character. Its funny, I'm almost upset with them for giving so much away. It reminds me that this thing has to end at some point. Only 8 more eps in this series and then another 7 month wait.

Y'see, this is what I don't get. I frankly don't give a flying fuck about when the writers write the story. What do I care whether they have it all mapped out at day one? Doesn't matter to me as long as they extrapolate the story in a sensible, credible and, above all, entertaining manner.

What if they ghad the story mapped out at day one and then thought of a better one as they went along? Should they stick with the first? I wouldn't.

So much concern over when an idea is had. Nonsense.
