Lost - The Full Series Thread

Been listening to lost podcasts recently, one that spends about 3 hours going through every unsolved mystery so far. No way can they wrap it all up. Loads of theories going around, one that melted my mind was something like this...

- Many of the flash forwards (from the first one at the end of S3) have actually NOT been flash forwards but alternate realities based on their life after they landed

- The people Jacob touched remember what really happened

- So if you remember Claire wanted to adopt her baby. So many months after they land Jack and Kate get together and adopt her son.

There were other examples of flash forwards that this theory could fit. I dunno, am sure there are many problems with that theory.

What happened with Claire? She kinda just left abruptly. Will she be back at all?

Set to be a semi-regular/regular if the poster and rumours are to be believed

I'll get the Lost Season six thread started up soon.

That person was recently quoted giving their comments on the opening episode script, so I think its no longer a rumour that they'll be in S6. That and Damon and Carlton stated way back when that

she'd not be in season 5 but would be in season 6.

Reading this reminds me I've forgotten nearly everything. When's it start?

Feb 2nd. The jury is still out whether the show will skip a few weeks while the Winter Olympics are shown but Obama's address to the nation was pulled forward a week. I don't think that's because of Lost but you never know...

The mad thing about the potential delay is that ABC aren't even showing the Olympics, they just don't want to lose Lost viewer by scheduling it at the same time. Just when we thought we'd get all 17 episodes in one go.

I've read many reservations about the introduction of alternate realities, but when you cast your mind back you realise we've already seen an example of this all the way back in season 3. In 'Flashes Before Your Eyes' the blast of energy released by Desmond turning the failsafe key caused his consciousness to jump back in time. After being refused a job from Widmore Desmond talks to Charlie in a really crappily rendered Covent Garden. Then in Charlie's flashback in 'Greatest Hits' you see the exact same performance and rainstorm, but with no Desmond. I think this is just a small example of what we'll see in season 6.

This phenomenon will occur again but this time to everyone present at the Swan station when the bomb went off. The gift the blast of energy which made Desmond special will presumably be granted to Jack et al. Their consciousness' will travel back in time to 2004, in the airport making us think there's been some kind of reset. Whether or not they'll have immediate full memories of the 'future' or whether it will be gradual realisations (like Desmond's flashes) remains to be seen. But presumably some things are changed, and some are not.

My only qualm with this direction is the writers might revert to their old Final Destination-esque fate thing. So the people who died were meant to die and they'll probably just ending dying again in different ways. And the Losties, whether through outside help or their own knowledge, will have to learn that it's their destiny to go the Island no matter what happens. Fuck knows what bearing this will have on fake Locke, Jacob, the 'war coming' and the 316 crew, I'm probably completely wrong about the first bit anyway.

Interesting. I got really into the whole Desmond-changing-the-timeline thing back during the confusion at the start of season 5 (was the bit where Desmond opened the Swan door to Faraday something that always happened, or had Desmond changed things, as with the Covent Garden bit you mention?).

I'd resigned myself to the thinking that the writers had tied themselves in knots with Desmond's abilities, and would quietly forget about him. But that's a good theory.

I do like the idea of Jack, Sawyer's etc conciousness travelling in time, Desmond-stylee. So the events of the season 5 finale in 1977 don't represent an alternate timeline, as Jack erroneously believes - all the shit that kicked off at the under-contructon Swan station always happened. But it gives the writers lots of opportunity to fuck with the audience ("Oh so it is like Back To The Future after all!"), and would make for some great TV. Especially if their conciousnesses all travel to random points in their lives!

I also agree that it does bring back the stupid idea of 'fate' being some kind of concious being, but I think we're stuck with that in the Lost universe.

thats good. that hurley and her knowing each other in the asylum thing always bugged me, as it was a major revelation (or was treated as such) and i want it explained.

They didn't know each other though did they? She was just in the same asylum.

There wasn't to be originally, this was going to be the season with no breaks or pauses but then a couple of months ago ABC announced that the show would be taking a break while Winter Olympics were on. Not sure if that still stands.

What do we make of this?

DL: Here's something you should know, just as another fact.. um, if you take a calculator, oldscool calculator, and enter the numbers...

CC: It has to be oldschool

DL: It can't be like an iPhone... and then you turn it upside down; that would be the last word that was spoken on the show

CC: You just have to figure out what to divide the number by before you enter it in the calculator

DL: That's right.

Haven't actually watched the video myself yet to judge from their tone whether they're obviously taking the piss, but even if they are it hasn't stopped all the loons on alt.tv.lost from coming up with every combination of upside-down-number-letters and trying to get something meaningful from it.

They're leaning towards sensible things like LIE, HELLHOLE and GO, but I'm much more in favour of the rather more juvenile BOOBIES or GOBBLE. :omg:

Mid season episode centric spoiler, no plot points

Richard Alpert's episode is, according to everybody who has read the scripts, a 9.6. Kate's is the weakest.

Complete centric list and episode titles spoiler

1 - LA X (non centric)

2 - LA X (non centric)

3 - What Kate Does (Kate)

4 - The Substitute (Locke)

5 - Lighthouse (Jack)

6 - Sundown (Sayid)

7 - Dr. Linus (Ben)

8 - Recon (Saywer)

9 - Ab Aeterno (Richard Alpert)

10 - (Jin and Sun)

11- Happily Ever After (Desmond)

Can't wait. Great character.

Cool character sounding like he's going to be an important part of this series spoiler

Alpert has been signed up to appear in 15 episodes, it seems. Which is AWESOME news because he's a fantastic character

Just as an aside, you can make Eloise on a calculator. I hope she comes back into play.

I've watched the videos and the whole thing looks fake as fuck.

Sorry - it is such utter, utter shit, isn't it. Only just watched the video myself, and I now apologise for having wasted your time.

Reading the except at work without having the context of the awful fake 'candid' video I thought there was at least a minute chance of this being one of their little wordy games (Hoffs-Drawlar, etc), but having seen it it's abviously a piss take. I can't believe now that the more mad Lost fans have been seriously investing time into not only finding caclulator words, but also working out the divisor required to get those words and wondering about its significance. Mentalists, the lot of 'em.
