Lost - The Full Series Thread

Charlie let himself die because he believed it was the only way that both Claire and Aaron could get off the island. Remember, Claire nearly drowned because of the lightning rod incident earlier in the series, showing that if he didn't die, it could have repercussions on those he loved, so he accepted his fate. At first, I was all like, "get out the door, then close it, you fool!" but he couldn't do that as it kept putting Claire in danger.

Charlie's motivations are clear enough, but if Patchy was in decent enough order to gear up and swim out there...why would he swim outside and pull the pin on the island of miraculous recovery!? Don't answer that. The answer of course is that it's a TV show. But damn, it was a good one.

I think it's silly to have lists of favourites, but I can't help myself and have often wondered whether I'd put Lost above The West Wing. I think I've realised it just comes down to which show I've most recently watched.

Someone asked me the other day if it's worth watching all six seasons of this. Thinking of the awful last season, I had to say, "No." :(

Season 6 had plenty of great moments in it. For me that final shot of Jin and Sun in the sub always brings a tear to my eye, plus of course the very end with Jack and Vincent.

I watched this up to about halfway through the final series when it aired, then missed a couple so decided to wait until the DVD release and catch up then. I got the complete series just before Christmas so I watched the show from the very beginning to get back into it. I finished it yesterday.

For me, Lost has always been about the characters. The island stuff is fun, but I would have been content if the show wrapped up with none of the major mysteries solved (Although I do realise I'm probably in the minority with this). The last series is a mess. The temple was pointless. For half a series some of the characters wandered around this place which seemed to exist only as somewhere to bring Sayid back to life. The whole Jacob vs Smokey was okay, but it felt like it was there to bring the series to a resolution. The 'Light at the Centre of the Island' stuff was just stupid and a piss poor explanation for the importance of the island. Personally I would rather they hadn't tried to explain it at all. I actually found the flash-sideways stuff more interesting than the island stuff. Until they explained it which made the whole thing somewhat pointless.

For me the show was never as good from S5 onwards. It went from a community trying to survive with wierd shit going on to smaller groups working independently (Some were in 1977, some were off the island, some were on the island in the present) and it was never as interesting as when they were together. I had hoped S6 was going to rectify this given they were all on the island in the ssme time, but instead they fractured further. Some were with Locke, some were with Jacob, some were with Widmore, some were doing their own thing. Claire was now a loony and Sayid had turned into a zombie.

For me, the show peaked at S4. The flash-forwards stuff was ace and I would have been ok if the show had finished there for the most part. While the stuff afterwards was ok, it definitely was weaker. And although I just ripped it to shreds, I found the finale quite moving. But I would find it hard to recommend knowing how it ends.

I agree that Season 6 was a bit of a mess at first but I was hooked by it just as much as the previous seasons. And for me the emotional payoff was worth it, the final episode more than made up for the poor parts of rest of the season. The biggest problem with the final season was that it was never going to please everyone, people had their own interpretations of the island and how the show should end, there was no way that the shows creators could deliver an ending that would satisfy everyone. Maybe I will feel differently when I watch the show again but for the time being Im happy with the way the show ended and feel that season 6 isnt as awful as most people say it is. Yes there were some things that could have been done a lot better but the good parts more than outweigh the bad.

I'm a little miffed we never got to see the survivors return to the mainland either. Kate would have a hell of a lot of explaining to do.

"Yeah, I know Sun, Hurley, Sayid, Jack and I said we were the only survivors of Oceanic 815, but here's Claire and Sawyer! And a bunch of other people you don't know. Where's Jack and the rest of them you say? Err...."

Lindeloff and Cuse showed a deleted scene from season 1 at Comic Con which proves everything was planned all along

I actually like the fact that they are happy to have a laugh at their own expense and the absurdness of the plot.

Plus, "Barry" :D

Lost would have been amazing if they had compacted down everything to 3 series - FAR too much bumff. 3rd series was horrendous, and I felt they had a perfect ending with season 5 finale, 6 was pretty damn bad.

The first half of season 3 was pretty shite, but it really picked up from the middway point.

If they do another Lost, i'd probably watch it - but i'd rather they worked the full story out at the start rather than make stuff up as they go.

Ignoring the obvious appeal of real cash money for ABC, why on earth would they think of bringing this back? The only character that they actually gave some depth and purpose to they turned into an avatar of Mr Big Bad, the overall story was a complete mess (due to them tying themselves in knots) and it had far too much padding.

As above, leave it alone.

It will follow Vincent's adventures.

Fake Vincent.

More-so than any other inconsistency that bothered me...that wasn't Vincent. That was some stand-in nobody dog.

It still struck the right note, but a little bit of me dies every-time it leaps out at me in season 6.

They should do an episode set in the 70's where Hurley is living next door to Dr Chang. It's Hurley's birthday, so he throws a big party with a barbecue and beer and music and dancing and a ping pong tournament and unprotected casual sex, but Dr Chang is trying to prepare a really important report next door, and can't concentrate because of the noise. Chang comes round to complain and Hurley's all like "dude, chill out, have a beer," then when Chang gets back to his place, Hurley's pet monkey or something has got in the window and ripped up the report, so Hurley has to help him write a new one. The episode could end with Chang shouting "Huuugooooooo!" and waving his fist.

I'd fucking watch the shit out of that.
