Grand Theft Auto sequel confirmed for this year

True Crime just put me off, the locations were that dull. I don't get why they couldn't just invent a new city. Liberty City and Vice City were fantastic. Long straight roads just sounds dull. I don't care how hilly they are.

Mind you, we know nothing except the name. Maybe Rockstar will take huge liberties with SF and make it practically unrecognisable.

It'll probably bear absolutely no resemblance to SF - in the same way that Liberty was only based on New York and Vice based on Miami, it'll probably be noteable for it's big bridges, trams and huge downhills.

And gays you can run over like the Gouranga men from the original game!

It is pretty much straight roads yes, but then it's very hilly, and I assume they'll be including the town (Forget it's name) over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Sausalito (OT: very nice bike ride from the city over the bridge and down the huge fudge-off hill to it)

For your information, you can preorder for £29.99 from Play, Amazon or Gameplay. For an extra 99p, Gameplay will dispatch first class and this usually means the game arrives 1 or 2 days early depending upon when they receive stock. Enjoy.

I know, but I will cos it'll probably be a good game. I'd of just prefered a bigger leap from 3/VC.

That would be GTA4 you are wanting then. This is just a kind of spin off from GTA3. Like GTA3.2 or something.

It's never been confirmed that GTA:SA won't feature an exhaustivly upgraded engine, but it's just one of these things that everyone seems to know, similar to the fact that the title of the game (San Andreas) was known a couple of months back. I think someone from Sony/Take 2/Rockstar has mentioned it somewhere but I can't find the quote.

It can be deduced from common sense though. GTA uses Renderware (Criterions middleware engine) and unless they dump that and go solo then we will be seeing the same engine. It wouldn't make financial sense to upgrade the engine when the current one does perfectly well. Naturally, there will be some upgrades in the engine but it will be based on GTA3/VC code.

This doesnt mean it will be rubbish though. The core gameplay is what makes GTA class and that will be there in abundance so I wouldn't worry about anything. The Next Gen version will be all the sweeter when it rolls round.

bollocks, a decent targetting system or twin stick aiming (like Kill.Switch or the console Max Paynes) would do fine.

The manhunt engine has a much better targetting system. And seeing that it's based on teh GTA engine, it should be easy to utilise. I say this without having any coding knowledge at all, but hell, everyone else was guessing about stuff and I felt left out. ;)

If GTA:SA doesn't use Manhunt's on foot engine (with suitable tweaks for vehicular interaction) I'll be seriously disappointed. The gunfights in Manhunt were superbly tense affairs, and there's no doubt they'd transfer brilliantly to a living, breathing city. As a result, assassination missions would feel more like a proper game, and less like trading bullets til one of you falls down.

If San Andreas can deliver the varied terrain of Liberty City, the transport and musical splendour of Vice City and the gritty combat of Carcer City, it'll be the best American city ever.

also similar to the fact that loads of people seem to be presuming its going to be set in the 60's/70's despite there being no evidence to support this. id bet on a modern day setting tbh.

Anyone know what the soundtrack for this new GTA game will be?

50 cent was involved in the early stages, dunno if that survived.

Did the last Zelda game give us anything significantly new to the tried & tested formula apart from cel-shaded graphics and a sometimes mind-numbing sailing portion? No, but for the most part it was great.

I expect the game to be excellent, just as GTAIII & VC were - A two year gap between games suggests that the leap may well be bigger than it was from III to VC.

Gamesradar suggests it may have a gansta rap theme. That would be a bit naff. Does anyone think gangsta rappers are cool any more?

I'm hoping for a Dirty Harry-style 70s theme. San Francisco is inextricably linked to 70s cop films.

If the soundtrack featured Eazy E and that lot, I'd poo my pants with joy.

50 Cent said in a radio interview that he was working on a "Grand Theft Auto-style" action title along with Eminem, Dre, and G-Unit, which caused Gamespot to speculate that it could be the new GTA game because Eminem was rumoured to be negotiating a deal with Rockstar. It was never confirmed that any of them actually had any involvement with the forthcoming GTA title.

On a side-note there's an advert for CVG in the April (?) issue of PC Zone proudly claiming they've got exclusive details on "GTA: Sin City".
