Splinter Cell 2

Is the PC version out yet? I saw the boxes out in Game a little while ago, it seemed like it was going to be the first version to hit the shelves. Has anyone played it and is it any good?

I'm going to wait for the xbox version anyway, just because playing online on live has always worked out much more hassle-free than any online pc game i've played, and the online aspect looks by far the most interesting part of the game.

shame it can only do 4 people online.

I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

It's supposed to be slow & calculated. You don't want to be bumping into people and having gun fights every two mins.

Plus it means it'll easy to get four players who want to play the game in the 'right' way.

4 isn't so bad. I would particularly like 3 mercs v 1 shadownet op as 2v2 doesn't appeal. Any more would be a mess, IMO. This isn't about shoot outs but stealth and technique... I think it'll be a blast if it works perfectly and I can't wait.

What, in versus? 2 on 2? That seems a shame. 4 would be fine for co-op missions, but not for head to head.

The best thing the multiplayer is the tension you feel, which comes from not knowing where your enemies are. That wouldn't be there if there were lots of people wandering around. From what I played I'd say four players was about right.

* Having said that, there were periods of wandering around for minutes at a time not meeting anyone, but I put that down to not knowing the maps.

He's still not saying it's a no, though. His vagueness could be interpreted as "we're looking into it".

Question - does PS2 online go through some kind of central Sony controlled server before connecting to other players, or is it proper peer to peer with publisher run servers?

Just watching the two new videos on gamesradar is making me wet with anticipation.

Are you a lady?

Anyway, yeah. I'm *dead* excited about this. Aside from Halo 2, SC2 is the reason I'm getting LIVE in my own home.

Apparently they'll also be drip feeding 8 free new maps over the coming months for download.

I didn't really like Splinter Cell (it seemed to be missing a key ingredient known as 'fun') so I'd pretty much dismissed this.

However, reading the previews and watching the videos of the multiplayer action has peaked my interest. It certainly looks original and has bags of potential.

The problem I have with Live games, though, is that unless you are obsessed with the game and play it loads, both on and off line, it only takes about two weeks for seemingly everyone in the world to be better at it than you.

I bet I'd be rubbish at it.

Me too. But my secret is to play it loads for those two weeks, have a whale of a time, and then leave the hardcore to have their fun. But you have to get the game on release or you're buggered.

Don't worry - I'll be one there, and quite frankly, I'm rubbish.

I'll get it from Game using their 10 day thing. That way, If I'm having a whale of a time, I can take it back and order it from Play.

I got Rainbow Six 3 on release, and played it a bit on Live, but kept getting killed by silent assassins. I still play the single player game, but have been scared to go on Live for months.

You should get on with us lot off the forum. Always good games-a-going on most nights.

Check out the online folder or start your own thread there.

Some PS2 online games are hosted remotely (Socom, for example), but seeing as SC:PT is appearing on Xbox Live and that's only peer-to-peer, it's fair to assume that the PS2 one will work the same way (only not locked into the Live servers, obviously.) therefore I can only assume that there's nothing to stop a GC version appearing and they can probably use the same system (though tweaked slightly perhaps) that they use for the PS2 version, though I'm not sure if Sony handle the registration process of if thats up to Ubisoft. I'd guess the latter, but I really don't know enough about how all this works.

Chuffing nora!

They look good. Not too sure about the American voices but the gameplay looks top. Love the phospherant grenades you can fire to mark the spies and the like.

Just can't wait for this.
