Splinter Cell 2

Goldeneye... I held it like a left hander and used the D-Pad on the left of the pad to move and strafe and the Analogue stick to look and turn. The same way I now use for FPS Dual Stick set ups. Strangely, when Metroid Prime came along I was dreading it, but it just felt so natural in that game that I never had a problem with that either.

Same here...MP was no problem at all, because it used one stick.

There's another control problem that may affect some people (ie me): Playing as a spy you can invert the horizontal axis on the right thumbstick in the multiplayer game, but not in the single player.

Surely you CAN invert the 'mouselook' in both modes? Otherwise they really ARE shooting themselves in the foot.

Are you telling me that in Single Player you can't have pulling down to look up?

In MP you can invert the right thumbstick for both the horizontal & vertical axes, but in SP it's only the horizontal one that can be inverted. The look up & down one can still be inverted, it's the left/right one that can't.

Sorry, I get muddled with my X & Y axes. ;)

I took TimeSplitters back because I couldn't handle the twin sticks method. Then when I got Halo I didn't bother trying to change it to GE settings (which was what I had used before), but I still couldn't get the hang of it.

Eventually I just sat down and thought "right, this seems to be where FPS control is going, so I'd better bloody learn it". It took a while, probably well into the second level of Halo, but by the end of the game my thumbs were just doing what my brain was thinking without me having to think about it at all.

I can of course still play GoldenEye, but I don't like it as much any more. I guess my brain has separated movement from aim now or something.

So please just try it for a while guys, you could end up really liking it like me.

Let me get this straight, in MP you can invert both the X- and Y-axis right? And in SP you can only invert the Y-axis?

I don't want to start an arguement here guys but I posted some concerns about the mercs controls not being customisable and I FUCKING new that this would happen. I cannot be bothered browsing back through the previous pages but I said that they may overlook customisable controls in multiplayer.

You never know if the xbox live community shouts loud enough maybe they will release a patch or something ;)

Anyway, before someone comes here and shouts learn the controls. I was planning to so don't you worry its just that when I go back to playing Halo or another FPS that I use the Turok method of control, its going to be wierd. I need my brain rewired I think.

Still, I'll have a good chuckle at Sprites defending the games industry yet again, whilst everyone else that it effects takes the game back, or doesn't bother purchasing it.

I'm not defending anyone; I'm trying to help you all by informing you that - no matter how much you complain - the chances are the current standard may will forever remain and may result in an awful lot of uncustomisable games in future that you could miss out on. By learning how to make this very simple change now, you save yourself a lot of trouble. (until, of course, triple sticks become the standard ;) )

So, the first person mode doesn't allow you to custom set up the sticks?

;)

Why oh why oh why?

the point made ealier about controlling spys is important. you wouldn't want to keep altering your setup every time you switched sides would you?

aside from that you guys are just gonna have to learn to adapt. joypads are designed these days with this control method in mind, because, it works really well.

The reason only the spys can change the X Axis is because that's basically controlling the camera and some people prefer it the other way.

EDIT But it's beyond me why you can't use it that way in Single Player mode.

Unless the teams making both never communicated. ;)

i just got kicked from a server for cheating. What a bunch of dumb ass's. I was using the second vision as one as the guards, i saw a spy through a wall [he was obviously using night vision or thermal] i fired a grenade so that it bounced off the wall and it planted itself beside the spy. He died. all of a sudden I'm a cheater.

Sore losers. No loss, I'd say.

To make it like you're moving the camera, rather than the view? Only in third-person mind you; if you tried that in first person you'd be royally confuddled.

Oh, you can tell I'm tired. I thought this was the Far Cry thread. ;)
