This is the first one I've encountered. Can you name some for me? Console games that is.

Every FPS game on Xbox, I think? Excluding games like Quake/Unreal.

Counter Strike and all the Tom Clancy FPS games.

I'm fairly sure GR:IT et. al adjusts your chances to hit based on stance, movement, single shot/ short controlled bursts / wild spraying. It's just that RS3 has that weird thing where its balanced so unloading at point blank range doesn't always kill, which makes it look odd. And I do remember RS3 aiming seemed a little differnt to GR:IT in the way the sight moved, but I'm not the best one to ask about this sort of thing (I'd have thought you were, Uxorious)

With GRIT, etc the aiming reticule tightens when you stop or crouch, whereas with RS3 it gets bigger and is meant to auto-aim within it, which means that you could have the centre dot aimed at the head but the bullets will go anywhere within the large circle like the body or even miss.

That's how I understand it works anyway.

No it doesn't do that hitcher, it may seem like it but it's not supposed to anyway...

If the is an enemy inside the circle it is supposed to hit them anywhere on there body that is inside the circle, thats why I play so you aim the middle dot slightly above the head so that there is more chance that the bullets will tear through your face.

Heh. GR:IT has it pretty much right. If you're ever fired a real gun, you'd realise how impossibly difficult it is to be accurate on the move at all.

Nevertheless, I'd exepect Sam Fisher, crouching, to be pretty damn accurate.

Re: splitscreen: BASTARDS. Why couldn't they have just sorted 2 vs 2 splitscreen on two Xboxes, sharing a screen with your team-mate. It's EASY to get two Xboxes/TVs, but trickier to justify 4... for 4 people. 4 for 12-16 player Halo we can do.... but ARGH. Stupid people. Halo is still the ONLY decent system link game on the whole platform!

.::: Just saw the Xbox version in action.

It's STILL graphically inconsistent. One moment you have a pretty set piece with nice lighting and shadows, the other you don't even HAVE a shadow. Really, you'd expect them to have noticed it this time...

I've been playing pandora today (no pun intended) and quite like it. I gave up on the original, since it got really hard. I've started thinking more laterally now though, so I might go back to the original later. It seems there is a character I am meant to recognise, so I guess they must be towards the end of the first game.

As for the shooting, you seem to be more accurate when crouched and still, just like the other Tom Clancy games, (I love Rainbow Six.)

damn it, i thought this was going to become a real fixture but 4 boxes is a lot of effort.

Sure, I was talking about a specific bit in Indonesia where I was crouching, still, and SNIPING, holding my breath, shot the guy just above his jawline, and he started shouting and radioing for backup. Kind of ruined the immersion for me.

Single-player is very good but actually I'm beginning to think the environments feel a little less "rich" than the first game, although they have cleared up a few niggles.

I finally tried it yesterday, and went straight for Live. Strangely, the game crashed several times when I tried to list games I could join. I don't know what happened, perhaps some bug with Xbox Live yesterday, or the fact that I'm playing the PAL version earlier than the release.

Anyway, I did a search and just joined the first game on the list, and played a couple of hours with two americans who were quite friendly. It's quite a tense multiplayer experience, wether you're playing mercenaries or spies, I'm not sure which one I prefer really. You can't adjust the sensitivity of the analogue sticks when playing mercenaries, though, so they are quite slow to turn compared to normal FPS-games. But I guess this has something to do with balance.

It seems that you gain levels while playing online, so the better you are the higher ranked you'll be, and everyone can see which level you are.

I'll hopefully see some of you online this weekend.
