Dawn of the Dead

Out on the 26th March IIRC. I'm quite looking forward to it - part of me is certain that it won't live up to the original, and as I don't know what certificate the film is, I suspect the gore will be toned down - but it's still going to be a 'must see'.

There's something about Romero's zombie mythos that other films just don't seem able to beat. 28 Days Later was good but living people turned into murderous automatons doesn't have the same appeal as the recently dead returning to eat the living. The idea's just deliciously creepy.

Fingers crossed that it doesn't disappoint.

Trailer etc available here.

Fingers crossed for this one, it could have been an absolute turkey, and who knows, it could still be. But what I've seen so far it looks like it could be pretty decent.

The Romero movies are classics, and Dawn is one of my favourite films of all time. Find out in a few weeks if they've managed to make something decent. With lots of gore

I wonder if it can suck any worse than Tom Savini's version of Night of the Living Dead. That too suckage to a whole new level.

Oh God yes! It was on Sky a week ago and is an absolute shitefest. Apart from Tony Todd.

I read somewhere that this is good:

Don't know about when / if it's out here

Shame in a way they chose to remake the Dawn of the Dead, I understand Day of the Dead that was released was quite different to the ilm Romero wanted to make originally.

Wish they had gone off and made it as per his original script- then they could have cashed in on the fans who will see the film whatever because of the Romero connection and done something a bit more interesting too.

Some remakes are so bizarre- the remaking of Psycho in colour has to be the oddest. Can you imagine the pitch for that?

You can read Romero's original Day of the Dead script here. Quite a lot of similarities with the final film, but the original story would've made for a much bigger movie.

Hopefully the Dawn remake will be a success and Romero will be able to fund his next 'Dead' film (Dead Reckoning / Land of the Dead).

p.s. I LIKE Savini's remake of NotLD.

That would be my dream come true.

Shawn of the Dead will have running zombies.

'You, sir, are a fool!'

Zombies DONT run, they rely on capturing their prey by surrounding it. Also they can not open doors either they only eat or claw their way through obsticals.

YESSSSS, but these are SUPER zombies.

I think it's going to be rather good. I like the idea of the zombies actually decomposing over time. That should produce some interesting visual nastiness.

It worked in 28 Days later. End of.

Aaah but 28 Days later wasnt about Zombies in that they were dead brought back to life. 28 days was about human rage gone out of control.

But I think it'll definitly be a 'Get the lads around for a few beers and a pizza' type movie. Films with zombies rule!

You SAW them climbing the stepladder at the end of Dawn of the Dead, right?

The Undead is a little Australia move made by two brothers. It's actually a couple of years old and isn't due a US release until some time later this year. It was bought up by the same company who released Cabin Fever.

Very low budget with some inventive ideas and quite a bit of gore. Sadly, it runs out of steam in the last 30 minutes as the directors pile more and more ideas into an already packed film. What begins as a zombie descends into some sort of sci-fi movie, end of the world type thing. The tone is along the lines of Evil Dead and Bad Taste.

It does have a great character in the form of this shotgun packing farmer. At one stage he has a tripled barrelled shotgun! There's also some great handgun work, incuding a scene in which he throws two guns into the air, shoots his shotgun and then catches the two handguns and begins shooting again.

It's not brilliant by any stretch but has some great ideas, some good set pieces and a few great lines.

Dude, I beg to differ: that zombie Bob in Day of the Dead was taught how to do stuff by that doctor guy. I'm sure he could have leant how to open doors if he hadn't been wasted by the bad guy.

Wait, I just realised what a stupid argument this is.

Zombies, in case you haven't noticed, aren't real.

The original day of the dead script is pretty woeful. The budget version he made benefited from the lack of cash immensely.
