I mean, 17.99 for :

Hitman Contracts, UT2K4, Painkiller, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

24.99 for

Farcry.

I mean these are budget prices on a console.

How can retailers compete with that.

Easily, because a fairly large section of the public are still sh*t scared to shop on-line.

Or just don't know.

Ignorance feeds the coffers of Game.

Yup. As long as people continue to be scared about credit card numbers being hacked out of thier PC, or just plain don't realise how much they could save, brick-built shops will continue to thrive.

Sometimes i spend a few extra quid at game if I cant be arsed to wait.

But its becomming more then a few extra quid. we're talking two bloody good games for the price of 1 with about 4 pound left.

Is it easy if the sites secure? You read their PC's are standalone, but YOU transfer your details, so surely this part can be hacked?

24.99 for

Farcry.

£17.99 from Play.com!

I guess it just comes down to ignorance of e-commerce - I really don't see the end of the high street, but other than buying something when you just need it there and then, I fail to see the point of it all these days.

This brings an intresting angle on the 'PC is better then Consoles' debate a bit, at least, on game price terms (not that you'd make enough money back i guess, unless you D/L.

That would take a few years and the PC would be out of date by then, still, its a bloody good argument.

Yes people should realise if If they  take it  to the shop they could clone their card while serving them.  I would thought it is more dangerous than online shopping.

Exactly. I had my credit card "stolen" (i.e. used without my permission) before and I used it all the time online. Turned out the person who stole it was an employee at a local restaurant where I used my credit card.

Credit cards are inherently insecure, but a good e-commerce system where the number is encrypted, and the processing is done entirely online is more secure than using in a shop, if done properly, as it should mean that your number is never available to low level employees of the company (unlike in a restaurant where they take your card away from you for 5 minutes).

I always thought the best way to get a good number of credit card numbers was to hack their main computers. AFAIR about 55,000 were stolen from Visa's HQ a couple of months back :P. Waiting on the post is great though I love it.*

You don't quite get that "walking around a shot figuring out what to get and then leaving with it" feeling, though, do you? That's why when I'm indecisive and have a few bob spare I go into shops (student discount in a lot of places helps too). But if it's something I'm sure I want then I get it online.

I'll only really buy sale or special offer items from shops these days. New titles at 40 quid are being increasingly exposed as the rip-off they are. When you can shop online and save at least £10 on that (plus the whole malarky of getting sealed copies, etc but that's a different topic!), there isn't really much decision to make for a poor student. Who shouldn't be buying games in the first place.

I'm also at that stage where I ALWAYS seem to have something to wait for in the post! Gives a person something to look forward to!

I can't remember the last full price game I bought on the high street. The only games I tend not to get online are sale offers (after I have checked how much they are online first of course). I am really bad for impulse buying. XIII is currently sitting awaiting play which it probably won't get for months or more likely I will sell it on when I realise that I will never play it.

I still like wandering about a shop, picking what game to buy- c'mon, how many of you have bought anything other than a new release online?

You big girls.

What? I got Deus Ex and Ico, two-for-£30, and three decent PC games for a tenner in Game. Show me an online retailer than can cope with my type of cheapskate impulse buying.

Actually, thats not a bad deal on those games.

But Ico is Ps2 only, so its console, thus void. The 3 games for PC were budget games (which are always good deals).

But i'm talking about Brand new (or not released!) PC games.

Therefore, my logic stands.

You are teh girl. :P

I have. Regularly. (just picked up mario sunshine and smash bros from amazon for £30 total, for instance). B&M stores are only for when i absolutely MUST. HAVE. GAME. NOW, and for second-hand stuff (and the occasional bargain in the sales).

Popo

Far Cry seems to be £24.99 from Play.com, was they selling it earlier for £17.99 or something ?

Also, whats the deal with delivery from Play.com. I have got 3 games ordered with them that are realeased this Friday or next. My UT2004 is still showing as pre-ordered and not sent so I guess I will not be getting it till the middle of next week, is this usual for them ?

After that I have got SC2 and MTX Mototrax for next Friday, so will I be sitting around waiting for these as well. Sorry If this has been asked before, I have not ordered from them before, but don't get me wrong at them prices it would be just plain wrong to argue about a few days wait  .

I used to buy all my games from shops (because I don't like waiting) but having discovered Play.com I really just can't say no to them sort of prices. Its just too good to miss (although I will be buying BF Vietnam from Game on Friday as I want it for the weekend).

Thanks

TR
