Mr Driller 2 - Getting A Pal Release Tomorrow

The Gum Drop Kid

Recommended Posts

Popped into my local GAME today & they had boxes of Mr Driller 2 on the shelves, with the usual sticker saying coming soon. Eh ?

I didn't know this was getting a PAL release. Amazon, Play & Gameplay don't have it listed, only the GAME site does, with the availability of 2-3 days. I remember reading that it *might* be getting a PAL release, but it just seems to have appeared. As far as I know, it didn't even get a US release.

Is it any different to Mr Driller Ace that was released in Japan last year ?

What? It's identidcal!

Maybe I was playing a different version. <_<

The speech was all in English - the news reporter with and actual English accent and the driller guy with a US one. I'm quite sure the dog sounded different as well.

Sorry for being thick, but does Mr Driller Ace = Mr Driller 2 ? I've spent 20 mins visiting various sites, but I'm getting more & more confused...which isn't hard, but that's not the point. <_<

Nope. Ace is not 2.

2 improves on the first by including Susumu's girlfriend Anna as an additional character with slightly different play characteristics and a 2 player versus mode.

Ace goes all out by adding an RPG mode (a fleshed out version of Hole of Druaga from Mr Driller Drilland) which links in with the GameCube Drilland allowing you to export Pacteria to the parade, adds the entire Hori family (that's a whole 4 more characters) to the roster and includes a race mode.

Ace is loads better than 2 and there's loads more to do, but sadly still only available in Japanese. It took 3 years to release MD2, so fuck knows if they'll even bother with that.

Does two-player require more game carts?

Also, is this version of the game just the whole going downwards shebang, or are there other modes?

The game does require 2 carts for link-up yes. Also, it is only just the drill down stuff. They only started adding the extra stuff in Mr Driller G on PSone.

Oh <_<

Reckon I won't bother then. Unless it has that crazy just-one-more-go warioware-esque high score fun, if you get my drift.

It is only £20 by the way (at least it is on the GAME website) so it's pretty good value. You get time attack, endless and world tour options to keep you busy and at only £20 I'm sure you could probably badger a friend into getting a copy.

I've just downloaded the ROM and it's a shame they dicked about with the voices, but fair play for keeping Susumu's name correct.

Thanks Burai. Exactly what I wanted to know. <_< Looks like a definate puchase for me.
