Err... they could watch them. I don't think the process to disc is as easy as you think.

The recording of commentaries doesnt take more than 2 solid days, as they comment on them as they watch them and often mention how long its been since they last saw it. Also if your day job was to create these dvd's, it wouldnt take more than a few weeks, i do home made dvd's encoding from video tape and i can do them within a few days. Just dont see why it takes a whole year to put them onto dvd.

Well, it is for commercial reasons, but a year does seem a bit excessive (with X Files etc they release one every six months). They want everyone to have time to afford the previous set before the new one comes out, and also people who have just started collectiing them to be able to afford to save up for all the previous series in that time etc.

Judging by that episode list, S4 was one of the best.

Last Exit to Springfield? Excellent.

And DJ Sack, different writers/directors/actors appear on the commentaries, so I would think it would be more difficult than you think. The commentaries are tedious, anyway.

There are some crackers there, but I've just seen them too many times. Still haven't been tempted by a Simpsons DVD yet. Maybe one day.

Same here. As much as I love them all, I've simply seen them all too many times for it to be worth buying them. I can practically recite them word-for-word whenever they're on Sky anyway. :(

Red Dwarf is also spread out as once a year. Bit of a bugger really.

Gives me time to buy all these and all the Futurama series though :(

Not sure why I haven't before, really.

How many series does The Simpsons have?

If it was to be worth them actually commenting on it, they would have to make some notes and remember some anecdotes, and talking for 8 hours straight for 2 days is crazy. but a couple of weeks is fine.

The Simpsons is currently on Season 15 in the US. And the Futurama box sets are out cheap (£15.99 a season on play.com) from Monday - I've got 2,3 and 4 on preorder to complete my set :D

If you watch the simpsons ones they are all done as they are, they mostly talk about rubbish and some episodes have lots of quiet moments as they get drawn into the program. The always comment how they havent seen this episode in so many years etc. So i doubt they go in with a note book of funny things to say.

Some of them are very good though. the commentary on 'Some Enchanted Evening' was excellent, telling the story of how the episode almost killed the simpsons before it even began. The Futurama commentaries are brilliant though, mainly because there are so many people on them that there's hardly ever any silence.
