ROMZOMCOM

Recommended Posts

The Dawn remake is indeed excellent. Particularly impressive given it's the director's first film.

SoTD: I did some extras work on this (not a zombie, unfortunately) and got to meet Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost; all personal heroes thanks to Spaced. Slightly better than when I met Simon Pegg before at the Edinburgh festival two years ago and my friend nearly punched him because she thought he was stealing our taxi <_<

2000AD are doing a special strip to tie into the film as well. Out in the next couple of progs I think.

Why did they include the romance bit? It makes no sense!

What the fuck is it with every British film having to have duff romance bollocks in it. I bet they wouldn't have gotten funding if they hadn't written it in.

It almost sounds like you're wanting to hate this.

Think positive!

Me and my mate in the cinema were the only ones laughing out loud at many bits in the Dawn of the Dead remake. Maybe we're hardened hardcore horror experts, but I really enjoyed the remake. I was very surprised, and there were some good parallels to 28 Days Later (the fast-shutter shake-o-cam, running zombies) plus it had the wonderous Richard Cheese in the soundtrack. Can't go wrong.

Plus! The credits! I left the cinema grinning like a gimp. The new Shaun trailer is wonderful too. I'm a big Spaced fan, and I reckon the movie will be like a movie version of Spaced with added zombies. Fantastic!!

"Pisshead."

Because the term British Comedy doesn't fill me with confidence. Take Steve Coogan for example. Funny as fuck on TV, but all his movies have involved lots of duff Hollywood-pleasing cliches, which I'd wager he was forced into including...

I am thinking the same will happen here...

We can't make a straight comedy horror we won't get enough funding... but if we have a romantic subplot...

I think you're reading too much into it. Simon Pegg says that they had ideas for a few films, but were worried they'd only get one chance so rolled them all into one. Whether that's true or not I don't know - it sounds reasonable, and while it is indirectly due to lack of funding for British films I doubt they were 'forced' into making a romantic zombie comedy. After all, it's a daft idea for a film!

Anyway, wait and see and judge for yourself.

Indeed, and besides, the film is less than 90 minutes long so it's not like they'll be stretching the gags out too much (hopefully).

As for the 'romance' - in my eyes that's kind of the point since Shaun is determined to get on with his life and get his gf back etc. despite the Zombies - he isn't going to let them ruin his plans.

Re-watched most of Spaced series 1 last night with the commentary. Fantastic.

I agree.

I very much doubt the romance is even a subplot. if anything it looks as though it gets equal billing with the zombies.

Besides, you only need watch Spaced to realsie romance features heavily in Pegg's work.
