When Halo2 arrives will you...

I really am not too sure about Killzone. From the footage I've seen, it looks a bit... well... PS2. Low bit depth texturing, dull greyish colour scheme. I read somewhere in Edge there's some wonderous "multi-layering texture technique" but I'm fucked if I can see it.

Dear Mr. Sony. Bigger sodding texture space for PS3. Ta.

Sven ;[)~

the quality of the graphics, or the lack thereof, doesn't bother me. it's never been a reason for me to buy a game.

i'm more interested in the gameplay and design/aesthetics of Killzone. it just appeals to me more.

Really? I'm all for the whole spectacle of gorgeous graphics and great control. Sounds like Halo, right? Yep. The washed out look of Killzone doesn't really appeal, though I do like the looks of the enemy soldiers with their funky orange goggles. The weapon design kicks ass too. It just looks obviously PS2. 10 year lifespan? Gaah. Lazy gets should just get PS3 out the door and stop all these superficial colour variations of PS2.

Single player for me, I can't wait to get knee deep in Covenant shit and really take advantage of the new cityscape maps which will be absolutely brilliant for fighting in. Then at night I think Live will be getting fired up, man this shit is going to OWN SO DAMN MUCH!

i'm not fussed about what format it's on either - if it were to be released on Xbox and looked the same i would still seriously consider passing on Halo2.

it's the same with Crimson Sea and Chaos Legion - essentially the same mechanics/gameplay but i enjoy playing Chaos Legion far far more. same goes for P.N.03 - i love playing it, others hate it. but for me everything about it just 'clicks', and i guess that's the difference for me between Halo2 and Killzone - i can't really explain it. just one of those things i suppose.

Hmm, I think i'll play it through on normal first. If I finished it on Legendary I wouldn't feel obliged to play through it again for a long time.

Although saying that, I might find it really dull if it's too easy. Guess i'll have to see how it goes...

That's my fear. I'm sufficiently familiar with Halo's Legendary setting that the lower difficulty settings just don't cut it any more.

I'd presume that Bungie will surely have upped the ante for Legendary veterans though.

I expect that mode to be seriously tough...

Yeah, I'll probably go for the equivalent of Heroic for the first run through and then take on Legendary after I've spent a while on Live. Fuck, Halo II, we need more info, how much is going to be unveiled at E3 I wonder? Surely it's time to stop drip feeding us screenies every other month and show us some finished levels?

I'll be giving the single-player game a go first. I'll probably buy myself a decent surround sound setup before hand, though; sometime between now and when it's out anyway.

Then I'll ease myself in on the normal mode* and work from there, eventually giving online a try once I'm used to it.

*Assuming there will be 'modes'. :P

Question for the Legendary 'veterans' on this forum: will you be hitting Halo 2's Legendary setting straight off the blocks?

I am yes. Hopefully I can take the day off for it too.

Wondering whether I should do it single or co-op first though. Probably single to savour the moment. The first time I got Halo though, I did that co-op from 14:00 Saturday afternoon to about 19:00 Sunday evening none stop. It was ace :P

a ) Go straight onto live and see if you really were the Halo daddy you always believed you were?

b ) Shut the curtains, turn up the sound system, pre-empt the missing persons report by telling the police you're going to be "unavailable" for a while, drop the missus off at her sister's, insert the drip and finally settle into a caffiene fuelled mission through the single player campaign?

c ) Add the still shrink wrapped box to the waiting shrine and have a quiet moments reflection about what you're about to experience...

d ) Boot up Fifa for another 16-0 thrashing of the computer opponent cause Halo2's gonna be rubbish and you need to feel like "a big butch man mister hat"

um, E) ?

leg it back home (well, sit on the bus, urging the driver "hurry up" and assuring him that "red lights don't matter"), shout "I'VE GOT IT!" at the top of my lungs, then whack it in the xbox, watch the intro with an almost-holy silence... then instantly boot up the multiplayer and get down to some good 'ol splitscreen carnage... possibly even system linked to 6 or more!

Can't wait! :P

I'll probably going through on Heroic first, although i'm not totally sure...

The first game I played it on the easiest setting all the way through, then the next, then heroic and I'm yet to finish legendary. It's so hard! :(

Oh, and by the way, as it has been said (I think) that Halo 2 will have 24 players at once allowed on dedicated servers on Live, surely link-up would support that or even more. Moto-GP style, 16 Xbox's x 4 players = 64 player Halo goodness.

[i'm sure it won't be that much though ;)]

That's what I'm planning on. Normal, then Heroic, then Legendary. If it's mind-numbingly dull, then I'll up the difficulty. But I'd much rather experience it on as many difficulties as possible.

To be honest, I think it would be impossible to fully appreciate Legendary without prior knowledge of the lesser difficulties.

Yeah I agree. I'll start on Normal through Heroic, then I'll be ready for Legendary ;)

You're - erm - all assuming it'll have the same difficulty levels and all that, aren't you?

"I'll play it on heroic, then legendary" etc, etc. What if it doesn't have them? S'a new game after all.

(Also, what if it's rubbish?! ;) )

Trust me, it will have: Easy, Normal, Heroic, Legendary. Why mess with perfection?

To try something new?

Maybe it'll have adaptive difficulty that gets harder the better you get at the game rather than having to select it yourself.

Then again, did the Marathon games use the Halo system? Just wondering if it's a Bungie trait.

Then again, did the Marathon games use the Halo system? Just wondering if it's a Bungie trait.

It had the same basic system with four difficulties, but the highest was called Total Carnage.

Marathon was quite similar to Halo in that it used colour to mark strength of opponents. The higher the difficulty, the higher the percentage of the toughest enemies. It actually worked quite well, and thanks to some nice touches such as the amount of shots fired, you really got the sense that the tougher enemies were not only harder to kill but also smarter.

Total Carnage was very hard with only the toughest variety of enemies, and also the only difficulty on which ammunition was limited. The Legendary of its time, for sure.

Hi

cointinue to eat breakfast - then plan a huge three day drug bender with pizza. and the game. and some pain killers....

Who knows - maybe walk around town a few weeks before release with a downloaded copy and makes faces at all the school kids -

"ha ha I have Halo2 scum kids"

to which they will reply

"Yeah mate - I host the download you wanker!"

"oh...."

or somthing along those lines.

(I may wait outside the shop at midnight if that happens -sad but fun)
