Steel Battalion "teach the newbies" meet

Basically, I give you a mech in campaign and then you give it back to me.  I keep my mech, you unlock an extra for free mission.

WIN!

(btw taiAtari, where'd you go ya big skank?!)

Aw sorry mate, I had to go to bed, it's one hour later over here and I have to get up at 6 in the morning . If I'd realised you just wanted to touch the VT's I'd stayed on for a while.

Had some great games last night though, especially one where a guy in a decider and me in a Falchion take out a team with a Jar C, a Maelstrom and a Scareface (using speed diversion and a fair bit of attrition). Even though they killed us first quite easily by mining and camping the bridge (had never encountered mines before: `what are these blinking things on the bridge?' Boom!, cue several rounds of sniperfire, guided missiles and a howitzer bombardment hitting my prostrate VT'. Initially we also had a guy in a prom M2 with us, but the replay showed him running for a bit, falling over and dropping out of the game...shame about the 40k.

No problem! What kind of an excuse is that though? I played until about 0230 and was up at 7 to go to work. Who needs sleep when gaming is this good?! ;)

That tactic pretty much works all the time now; kinda did the same last night in a second gen. match up. I took an SF A1 into the match, which caused a few laughs from my fellow team mates, until I told them the tactics -- I go in (fastest VT on the board) and mark everyone. You guys (who can see the opposing team) hang back and "support" from afar, I go knock some buildings over. The game lasted about 2-3 minutes, the time it took for me to cross the north bridge, make it through (literally) their city and over the south bridge.

Per-fect!

You're right ofcourse, but I had been doing that all week. I'm ready to fall over now.

The lack of the marker is a major weakness of the PRF by the way, I sure would like some A1's

If anyones playing this afternoon, would you mind helping out a couple of total newbies (Alan and myself).

We tried it yesterday and basically didnt have a clue what was going on! (although cheers for the bit of pre-game guidance magic lord).

It seems like because we are late entering the game its going to be extremely difficult to get upto speed. Plus its practically impossible to get any games in campaign mode. People just take one look at our ranks and tell us to come back when we`ve got some decent VT`s...Wars harsh!

So if anyones about let us know.

Oh yeah and BTW were on the HSD`s side

Sounds good.

Nice one, any help would be appreciated.

Just had my best game yet! I actually manged to destroy my first enemy mech and we won!

OK most of it was down to the guy I was playing with, but it was two of us Vs three of them, so id like to think I played some part in it.

I`ll say one thing though, Its certainly satifying when you win :)

Looking forward to Monday.

Just went online not long ago and entered battle royle then swiftly got my arse owned by some people in VT's with funny names like Jar-something......help. Went into campaign mode and the people are talking hardcore Steel Battlion lingo and they ask me all kinds of questions that I cannot answer. This is going to take some time to crack.

I finally got hold of the game yesterday and have spent all today playing the single player campaign. I'm liking it (apart from the AI  ) but for some reason it makes me grind my teeth. I didn't notice until I stopped but now my jaw really aches! :)

Anyway, I'll be hoping to get online with it soon (when I feel confident that I won't just end up running around and falling over  ). I reckon I'll get online Monday, so if some of you guys wanna help out a total novice with some guidance and the like then it'll be much appreciated.

Ok folks I was planning to start playing Battalion from about 4 or 5 onwards today till whenever I get sick of it. I'll add the others I don't have to my friends list and hopefully we can have some good games where I understand what the fuck's going on B)

Something just occured to me. I think us newbies may be best off creating new pilots, and when you choose your allegience choose Jarralacs or JAR (I think it is). Otherwise we have a problem in that we can only play on the side of people from the same faction.

Thats not a bad plan.

Although it will pain me to get rid of my 1 kill / 1 victory record.. :o

I wouldnt recommend signing up to the Jars on your first time out, the only mechs we have access to in campaign are the: Vitzh (1200 points), M-Vitzh (1400 points), Jar-C (16000 points), Jar-N (17000 points), the excessivly limited Jar NSR (60000 points I think) and now the Jar-Macabre (120000 points). These last two sell out in minutes of release and losing a couple of Jar C or N's in campaign will cost you a fortune and cost enough sortie points to end your teams' game with a crushing defeat.

Start with the PRF or HSD in that order, more cheap mechs on offer and easier to survive games with.

I'd swap twenty deciders for a single limited Jar mech anyday

As it pans out though, the various factions do pan out into very interesting playing styles:

PRF - Guns, all about the guns, running head long at the enemy and shooting crap out of his armour, the first team to get the railgun

HSD - Tactics and support, the affordable mechs are all about teamwork and intermech support rather then death or glory one on ones

RB - Technology, This lot get sod all guns but get all the funky tech, marker rounds, comms sniffing, stealth, uber stable mechs and a hell of a lot of speed

Jar - Free floating bastards :o , the Han Solos of the game, not overly techy, not the biggest guns, not the strongest mechs but have access to the best unlimited mechs (the Jar C and N) in the game IF you are good enough to keep them alive long enough. Like all bounty hunters, they are only as good as their last kill

I gutted that I finally get a chance to have a game with some guys from the forum and I have to go out. I had one good game with you guys at least.

I remember pounding everything I had at Bravestar. He tried getting away but was still within range of my weapons. Top fun.

I am going to attempt to be online later on in the evening with this.

Best comedy moment so far.

Ploughing straight into Outspaced in 5th gear going full speed.

The brakes arent that good in these things.

Only problem is I couldnt eject because of the lag, so I died and now i cant rejoin the game :D
