Technology that almost made it

Not like consoles, but more like features. For example, force feedback. That was successful, given it's now standard on each console. But VR was just shit.

The rumble modules in all of this gen's controllers are NOT to be referred to as Force Feedback... totally different thing...

XSN? Well i guess it could be classed as a failure in that only people on xbox Live use it but i don't think we'll see the technology dissapear anytime soon as it's bloody ace.

.::: I was more referring to the fact that even MS wasn't that happy about it. The idea itself is great, it just didn't work out. Which would fit the description imo.

And What was the Powerglove all about?

I beleive that the powerglove was in fact the best "data glove" available for VR and that until about 5 years ago. I remember that on the University of Abertay Dundee's little mini-prospectus for its games course it had a big picture on the front to promote its "cutting edge technology". It was some guy wearing a giant VR helmet (like the ones when it first became famous) and a NES powerglove. How I laughed...

I remember the term 'augmented reality' being bandied around quite some time ago and I believe it is making a bit of a comeback.

This was where you used to wear these video glasses and viewed realworld images and over the top of this, computer imagery was projected that you were able to interact with.

Those crazy touch sensitive 360 pads that came out in the early 90's which claimed to increase your gaming playing ability. They didn't have a D-pad and worked as well as a £2.99 Texas Calculator without a battery.

That pulse thing which was meant to moniter your pulse and change the difficulty of the game accordingly. Never seemed to get off the ground, probably becuase an implecably calm person would be faced with gaming nightmares:)
