Back to The Future

Silent Runner

It's the ultimate feel good movie. I'm not one for hyperbole but the bit where George McFly lays out Biff is the greatest moment in the history of cinema - TRUFAX.

It's weird to think it's nearly twenty years old though. I remember going to see it at the cinema. Weirder still is the fact that the terrorists are Libyans. My, how times have changed...

I'm not usually one for censorship, but i prefered this version of the movie. The swearing seemed too forced and false in the original. eg marty asking the doc why they needed to go to the future: "What, do we become assholes or something?" i just dont think it works. It'd be like Luke telling Vader to fuck off and die in Empire. They're family films.

Assholes isn't exactly a shocking word, though, and it was a damn funny line, IMO.

I love the trilogy, I always hoped for a fourth but alas it never came. Out of all three I prefer the second purely for the hoverboards and I remembered really wanting one.

I read on the Internet somewhere that the hoverboards were originally put into production by Mattel but they were lobbied so much from concerned parents that they were scrapped.

The original BTTF is still a great film and I might just have to dig out the DVD trilogy now for a refresh :)

Awesone film that will never ages. ever. Its weird seeing it with Eric Stoltz on the dvd extras. Micheal J Fox was in Scrubs the other week and he looked so ancient, seems to have his parkisons undercontrol though.

I missed the first half as I was just getting back from the football.

Watching just five minutes made me want to watch it all again on my unopened DVD set and doing so reminded me how great it is. After watching the second one last night it really is a cracking trilogy and very good that they stopped when they did (are you listening Lucas?). After all they could go on for ever in theory. Flying train time machines run on steam? There could be no end if they wanted to. No, I am glad they stopped.

Watching them in sequence makes me realise that the first one is more of a standalone film than two and three(despite the "to be continued" at the end of the first) which were more like two parts of one film. The first was more like all those 80's teen movies but two and three were different.

The other thing I noticed is that the "Yellow/Chicken" freakout bit is only there in two and three and despite playing a big part is missing from part one.

Anyway still great family fun. Good DVD extras too. Spielberg looks unbelievable back then.

  • 6 years later...

I already have these movies on VCD, Laserdisc, Video (twice!), and DVD (twice!!).

I just know that I'm going to rush out and get the Blu Rays as well...

Best trilogy ever.

:)

Was about to post similar.

I can watch that trilogy time and time again.
