Great final acts

I'm sitting here playing Metroid: Zero Mission and it's honestly got one of the finest final acts I can remember playing in a game, bringing the simplest and most proudly held gaming skills to life. Are there any other games this impressive? Well, in narrative terms there's plenty, but in terms of gameplay I'm honestly pretty stumped. Any takers?

Metal Gear Solid.

After all that stealthing about, and a couple of boss fights it throws a fantastic jeep chase at you, just for the hell of it. To me it was like the developers thought 'what else can we cram into this game?'

Adrenaline-pumping genius.

Banjo Kazooie - whole game's great, but from Click Clock Wood onwards, the game is genius, epic and innovative at the same time. If you don't love Grunty's boardgame you are dead inside, as I believe the expression goes in these parts. The final boss battle is great also, especially the rise of the Mighty Jinjonator.

Agree with all those who said Rez, Metal Gear Solid and KOTOR.

I quite liked PoP - although the actual final battle was easy, the actual climbing up the outside of the castle, reaching dizzying heights - without the safety net of being able to turn back time - is brilliant. First game to induce vertigo in me since the original Tomb Raider.

Apparently that chase was the most technically demanding part of the game too- they had no end of problems with it, but they refused to cut it because it was such a great finale.

It's definately not MGS2, that last fight with the swords wasn't the best but they just had to top it off with another feature length movie strapped on aswell.

Halo's "wathog race" and the chase at the end of MGS were pretty good though.

Any game with an "escape" bit after the last boss is a bang in my opinion. I mean, you just killed the last boss, thats when you sit back and applaud yourself, right? WRONG.

.::: My dear Metroid Prime, what HAVE they done to you? :):P:rolleyes:

Spayyyyyyyyce Channel 5. Either part, it doesn't matter as they both end ace to the power of inifinty.

Rogue Leader - the Battle of motherlovin' Endor.

The end of Shenmue, Chapter 3 - Up and down and up again in the Yellow Head building.

And yeah, the usual suspects - the countdown in Halo, the Rex/Liquid fight/jeep chase from Metal Gear: Solid, level 5 of Rez, Deliverance in Manhunt.

Aye, and most other Lucasarts point 'n click adventures, particularly Day of the Tentacle and Sam n' Max.

I meant because of the fireworks, when Guybrush and Ellaine (?) watch them.

Does that happen in Sam and DotT? Ages since I've completed them.
