What will happen to the Western portion of Ghibli if they do go?

Things might get released more

Disney wanted the Ghibli rights so they could kill it in the west and beat out compitition that had far better films coming out than their own in house studios. Same as what Miramax (also owned by disney) do with a lot of big Eastern films :P

They wont go bust. There's a reason for Eisner being popular with the shareholders. They practically have a finger in every pie when it comes to movie distribution and their turnover is ridiculous. It's just sad that their own animation (the foundations and heart of the entire company) is dying. I was gutted to see them sack an entire studio last year. Mainly because I was going to apply for a job there once I graduate. Now it seems they just don't want animators.

What people fail to realise is that our film arm is in REALLY good health. We can take a hit like the Alamo no problem. Last year we had our best ever year, with calendar girls, bruce almighty, kill bill, pirates of the carribean and nemo.

it's the parks and resorts dept that are killing the company.

yeah brother bear was alright, it just wasnt nothing amazing - certainly nothing on most of the previous films they made.

L&S though.. i just dont see what the big deal is about it. Ive got it on dvd, watched twice. Its alright but i find it quite boring to watch.

Brother Bear was close to becoming a parody of the fluffy Disney movie, except it had a shit plot, naff visuals/animation and boasted an awful Phil Collins soundtrack. The parts which made me really happy always involved the two ridiculously stupid moose characters. They need their own show.

When we put on L&S (I'd already seen it a year ago) I was reminded how amazing and original the visuals were, how the pacific/elvis soundtrack boomed impressively out of my speakers and how the plot and script had enough depth and spark to keep me interested throughout.

L&S was a good example of a quality Disney.

I think they had their own show many years ago in Canada. They certainly have their own movie, which is a favourite of mine.

That looks like a laugh. I'll, eh, hope it appears on suprnova before I go splashing the cash.

You mean there's a good Phil Collins Soundtrack??

Fair point. Although.....I didn't think Tarzan was as horrible as his other stuff. ;)

I heard that Disney aren't going to make any more 2D animation films EVAR after Home on the Range comes out, focusing on Pixar-style CG movies instead. ;)

Thats bollocks, they're not doing traditional animation but digital animation now, so we still see the classic 2D just a different work method.
