Lost Souls is a brilliant album, and was an amazing debut. I especially love Break Me Gently, Sea Song and A House.

Last Broadcast, in my opinion, was a big let-down. The single version of There Goes the Fear is a classic, but unfortunately the rest of the album falls short and marked a dissapointing step back for the Manchunian meloncholists.

Lost Sides I have just downloaded the first five tracks of, and I am very impressed...Sounds a lot more like Souls than Broadcast.

Opinions on Doves?

I still think The Last Broadcast is more consistently pleasing than Lost Souls, but that's my opinion. Both are bloody fantastic tho, I await their 3rd album (being recorded now! wooo!) like a tramp awaits some spare change, or, failing that, a fag.

It's very hard to define what exactly you'd call their sort of music, all that time as Sub Sub really must've gave them an ability to look beyond standard guitar-band cliches. Wonderful, life-affirming stuff.

Really like Doves. My Mrs introduced me to them and gave me a copy of both albums. I've since bought both and seen them live a few times. It's good that they don't shun their roots like some bands and even play a little Sub Sub (Space Face) for all the oldies at their live shows.

I think that both albums present consistantly good music, but Last Broadcast just has the edge for me.

Doves were INCREDIBLE live. They were playing some seriously weird movie at the beginning of their showws and, beered up, it scared me to death!!In this tense state they came on and rocked the place with Pounding. A fantastic gig. ;)

Lost Souls is far better and consistent throughout, though I'm not keen on A House, although There goes the fear is my favourite song ever, no lie!

The Fame Academy students won tickets to see Doves one night...

But still, I prefer Lost Souls to the Last Broadcast (and I picked up Lost Souls from Tesco for £6.99) not heard their new album yet. But it sounds good, is it out now or... ?

Edit - The Man Who Sold Everything

Haha! That's given me an excellent image of one man bringing the world to its knees, like. In the style of an oversized salesman in a smart suit, door-to-door... ;)

Anyhoo, after being introduced to the Last Broadcast I pretty much immediately loved the first 4 tracks + Pounding (the soundtrack of the best-summer-evaar kinda thing), then sort of lost interest. This went on until my musically better half showed me that Lost Sides album, which is amazing. Songs that sort of sound a bit like they're floundering (IMO The Sulphur Man and erm, NY) sound much better, really relaxing and lovely in their own right. And then you go back to the older versions, and that wonderful thing of re-discovering songs that you end up loving forever happens.

Or you just get sick of the whole lot. That happens too, I find, irritatingly enough.

So maybe Lost Sides is where it's at.
