Yup

That was something else.

The scene was great in the Manga and the video games, but that was next level.

The animation has been great throughout, but they raised the bar for that fight, reminds me of when they did the same for Madara vs The Alliance Shinobi in Naruto.

Kaka Jumanokushi Daisojin looked fantastic and was really well animated and even if you read the Manga you can't help but be impressed with how it looked.

But,

Didn't take them long for the "just the tip" memes.

I have a 5 hour flight coming up and access to Netflix, Disney and Amazon. Any anime recommendations?

Have watched One Punch Man, watched some JoJo and wasn’t a fan. Have also seen NGE. Otherwise pretty open to anything.

I need to finish Mob Psycho but think that’s only on CrunchyRoll.

Are the anime Witcher or Cyberpunk things any good?

People liked Cyberpunk, I got bored after the first one.

Is Cowboy Bebop still on Netflix? If yes then that is worth a watch.

Vinland Saga is on Netflix now as well as Prime, there's another recommendation.

Disney+ has the old and new Bleach but you'd be a bit lost to start the new Bleach without watching the old. And the old hasn't aged well.

Which Jojo did you watch btw? Just because I've never met anyone who didn't like it and was curious which you started with.

I've never heard of either before but it looks at sounds ok.

"It is August 12th. After the remote control to his boarding house’s only air conditioning unit is inadvertently destroyed by spilled cola, “I” devises a plan to return to yesterday in a time machine to recover the remote before it breaks. However, his prankster friend Ozu cannot resist playing with past events, even if it means bringing the universe to the brink of destruction. Now “I” finds himself racing through time to avoid disaster."

Watched seasons 1, 2 and 11 eps of 3.

Wasn’t bad, just a bit tedious. The explainy fights were very dull and the show isn’t as zany as everyone seems to think it is.

I think it's one of those things where it depends on when you watched it vs the hype.

I started with Stardust, watching the fan subs when it first came out (2015?) and it was so over the top and unique compared to the other stuff at the time.

After that, I read the Manga and far preferred it with all the Music references intact and with things less drawn out.

That whole fight thing is a Shōnen trope, it's in all the Shōnen stuff I watch from Dragonball to Naruto, but I get what you mean.

Cheers, for taking the time out to say what you didn't like about it.

I watched this yesterday after rewatching The Tatami Galaxy and Night is Short, Walk on Girl. It's a very entertaining and familiar-seeming follow up, keeping the character designs, background designs and even voice actors from Tatami, but it is much more conventionally directed than the Masaki Yuasa stuff, missing most of the breakneck pace and wild distortions of the earlier works. Still lovely to go back and revisit that bunch of goofballs again, and I'm thinking of picking up one of the original novels too.

JoJo 1-3 I wouldn't necessarily recommend to rllmuk but 3 is probably my favourite. It's like playing retro games in some way, Mario 1-3 are revolutionary games at their time but you'd probably still recommend Oddysee to those who aren't initiated.

JoJo is very much the same, 4-6 is what I'd recommend for a Rllmuker.

Currently watching the second season of Berserk. No idea what is going on, they've clearly jumped forward in the manga from where the first anime ended after the eclipse. The CGI base isn't as good as the old Anime either

Right apparently due to a quick internet search I watched season 2/2 which would explain why I didn't know who all the new people are 🤦‍♂️

Another ok week of Anime for me.

Bleach was good as usual, earning its IMDB 9.5 and is making me want for some of the later fights in this arc, but I've got a feeling that the current season episodes maybe finishing sooner than we think.

Gundam Witch was the usual emo with a few decent set pieces, and what I took to be a good little nod towards Gundam Wing.

I really loved Episode 6 (Two behind so far) of Akiba Maid, it's just such a great series that I would never have tried if it wasn't for the mention here.

I've also started watching another Isekai series called "Drifters" about "Heroes" & "Villains" from history being brought to the usual fantasy world. It's pretty good so far, but I wonder If I've either seen it before or maybe read the Manga or LN.

The first cour/season is set to consist of 13 episodes so typical anime length.

Just started watching Chainsaw man. Starting episode 3. It's animated by the same people that will be animating One Punch Man S3. It's very good so far and obviously looks very much like One Punch.

It's pervy main character is so VERY NOT Western 2022, or even western 2010 tbf. So, there's your warning.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just watched the ending of Mob Psycho 100 and I think it might just be the most powerful and deep anime ending I've ever seen.

Spoiler

The way it just builds and builds with Reigen stripped down to his bare feet and pounding the ground to desperately get to Mob, it starts building in a crescendo with the original theme kicking in and when he gets there.. Dimple returns! Topped off with Reigen telling him he lied about everything. The way it all just stops on a beat was fantastic. I've watched so many shows, so many seasons of things these past 20 years and nothings come close to topping that. Wow, just wow. Then the happy ending for everyone and hints that they are all going to be okay going forward was wonderful. What a show.

Can't really see this figurine being a big seller over here (love the show btw).

Yeah it was a fantastic ending. I don’t think this season has been the 10/10 slam dunk season 2 was, but overall the three seasons of Mob Psycho are one of the best anime series I’ve ever seen. It’s intelligent, heartfelt, funny, surprising and beautiful.

Watched and loved CYBER CITY OEDO 808 over the past three nights. Just gorgeous 90s anime with a pure 80s vibe, dripping in pure cool. Really cared about the characters, for the short time we spend with them, and the world-building overall was sublime.

Anything else out there like it? Probably not, eh?
