Four Tet- My Angel.

Good choice, but not a song strictly speaking :D

Hell though, everything off Pause and Rounds is bloody beautiful.

Easyworld's Kill the Last Romantic album is full of beautiful songs, but I reccomend them more for Winter more so than Summer perhaps... try 'Drive' and 'Saddest Song' and then buy their album.

That's all I can be bothered typing for now, and you probably know about "Radiohead" and "smashing Pumpkins" anyway.

Been listening to Camera Obscura recently (surprise, surprise), both 'A Sisters Social Agony' & 'Books written for girls' are both very beautiful.

Others?

Boards of Canada 'In a beautiful Place out in the country'

Boards of Canada 'Over the horizon radar'

Björk 'Visur Vatnsenda-Rosu'

Beach Boys 'All Summer Long'

Sun Electric 'Lone Sloane'

Clash - 'Lost In The Supermarket'

Wrings out my heart every time I here it :D

There's something crushingly wonderful about this tune, especially in contrast with their earlier material. Strummer leans on the mic like it's a baby kitten, and it still manages to plod along at a fair pace. Even the chorus feels like they're singing it to group at the retirement home.

Beautiful doesn't have to be fruity, hazy electro numbers or loose acoustic tunes for me.

Counting Crows : Colorblind

Yes.

Radiohead - Like Spinning Plates

and oh God, yes! Have you heard the live version? Christ what a song. *drool*

Another grossly underrated Radiohead track is "How to disappear completely" on Kid A, definately a up there in my most beautiful tracks ever.

even though strummer only joins in towards the end...

but yes beautiful song.

and whoever mentioned Massive Attack's Protection, which is the best example of a 'beautiful song' i could think of.

Leonard Cohen - Famous Blue Raincoat

David bowie - Life on Mars

Lou Reed - The Kids

Neil Young - Cortez The Killer (especially live)

So on the ball. Agree with Boy/Girl song, and I'll add Sunshine Recorder by Boards of Canada... and, well, everything by Boards of Canada actually.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye

Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should Have Come Over

Radiohead - Motion Picture Soundtrack

That's all I can think of off the top of my head...

I'll add to that

Jeff Buckley - Lilac Wine

Aimee Mann - Save Me

Leonard Cohen - The Partisan

Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer

Simon & Garfunkel - The sound of silence

Counting Crows - Holiday in Spain

Belle & Sebastian - Sleep the clock around

Most of the Radiohead ones have already been mentioned.

That's what I'm saying, it's devoid of his blunt accent for most of the song certainly setting it apart from most of their tunes. And when he does, you double take if it's actually him.

Beautifull songs, (at present)I'd have to go with -

Niel Young - Sugar Mountain

The Shins - Those to come

Elbow - Scattered Black and Whites

Absolutely amazing songs -

Niel Young - Like a Hurricane

Elbow - crawling with idiot

Beck - Golden Age

Radiohead - How to dissappear completely(I have a live recording of it that is my most treasured piece of music).

There are too many to remember right now, but I seem to be listening to a Niel young compilation album and Elbows new one (well certain tracks on them)more then anything else.

The Waterboys - The whole of the moon

I pictured a rainbow

you held in your hands

I had flashes

but you saw then plan

I wondered out in the world for years

while you just stayed in your room

I saw the crescent

you saw the whole of the moon!

The whole of the moon!

You were there at the turnstiles

with the wind at your heels

You stretched for the stars

and you know how it feels

To reach too high

too far

Too soon

you saw the whole of the moon!

I was grounded

while you filled the skies

I was dumbfounded by truths

you cut through lies

I saw the rain-dirty valley

you saw Brigadoon

I saw the crescent

you saw the whole of the moon!

I spoke about wings

you just flew

I wondered, I guessed, and I tried

you just knew

I sighed

but you swooned

I saw the crescent

you saw the whole of the moon!

The whole of the moon!

With a torch in your pocket

and the wind at your heels

You climbed on the ladder

and you know how it feels

To reach too high

too far

Too soon

you saw the whole of the moon!

The whole of the moon!

Unicorns and cannonballs,

palaces and piers,

Trumpets, towers, and tenements,

wide oceans full of tears,

Flag, rags, ferry boats,

scimitars and scarves,

Every precious dream and vision

underneath the stars

You climbed on the ladder

with the wind in your sails

You came like a comet

blazing your trail

Too high

too far

Too soon

you saw the whole of the moon!

fearbat, you are my new best friend :) You seem to have a musical taste thats pretty damn close to mine. So while Scattered Blacks and Whites is getting the appreciation it deserves I'm going to post it's lyrics, hehe

Scattered Black And Whites

Been climbing trees I've skinned my knees

My hands are black the sun is going down

She scruffs my hair in the kitchen steam

She's listening to the dream I weaved today

Crosswords through the bathroom door

While someone sings the theme-tune to the news

And my sister buzzes through the room leaving perfume in the air

And that's what triggered this.

I come back here from time to time

I shelter here some days.

A high-back chair. He sits and stares

A thousand yards and whistles

Marching-band (Boom-ching)

Kneeling by and speaking up

He reaches out and I take a

Massive hand. Disjointed tales

That flit between short trousers

And a full dress uniform

And he talks of people ten years

Gone like I've known them all my life

Like scattered black 'n' whites….

*cries like a bitch* God that song is beautiful.

Anyways, do you have that live version of "how to disappear completely" on your PC fearbat? Would be very grateful if you could send it my way! ;)
