Soul Calibur

Soul Calibur II is too fast, slightly less flowing and equally as pretty, which makes it kind of pointless.

I'd say it is definitely prettier than it's wee brother. I'd also say it's not pointless as the first was only available to the 300 or so people that had a dreamcast, now it's out on all platforms.

It's easier to button-bash, but By God, it's more satisfying to play it properly, and downright essential on later stages of Quest mode. Going up against the final guy took a range of carefully considered, incredibly precise strikes with impeccable timing to KICK THE BASTARD'S ARSE.

Satisfying to say the least. Multiplayer play on a similar level must be teh win.

I will soon have a PS2 Hori Soul Cali Stick. Are you saying I can buy an adapter to have this work with the GC?

GAME sell a PS2 > GC controller converter, works great with it.

With an adaptor, but I'm too lazy/tight to buy one for just SCII.

I thought they released them for all formats?

Yes, but my stick is for the PS2 and I'm not bloody buying a GC one just for that.

I'll check out those converters in GAME or online sometime perhaps, but I'm not that bothered about Link (well, I am but... )

One thing though, it seems pretty easy to button-bash, and not particularly precise.

This is what makes SC such a gem though. Anyone can do half-decently at it within a few minutes of picking it up, and occasionally win. However, ultimately, the better player prevails over the weaker one.

The game feels like it gives everyone a fair chance, which is why it's so great in multiplayer.

So why is it acceptable to allow a newcomer to have a good chance of winning in a fighting game, but when it comes to something "1337" like a FPS, the more experienced will win pretty much every time?

I think you'll find that if you play something like an FPS, even a newbie will frag someone whose good at the game every now and then... but the experienced player will still beat the newcomer.

FPS and Fighting games differ by loads anyway. You have a huge advantage if you memorise the levels of an FPS.

The series has got the best music of any game out there, but i don't play it much anymore because i finsihed Soul Cali 2 so fast. I found the Mission mode to be okay, but my intrest soon waned quickly.

Collecting Artwork and so forth doesn't really intrest me. i'd rather the complete set be earned within a series of battles rather then buying them seperately.

Thats just a waste of time.

As a two player game its superb, but my mates don't like fighting games so i'm basis that on one player only.

Don't . It turns out a converter doesn't work with the stick, money down the drain. :(

I'm another one who loves Soul Calibur 2. Been playing it for about a year now and am still far from bored with it. I meet up with my competitive sister every couple of weeks, where we play for the coveted title of 'The Cig of Victory'.
