GoldenEye: Rogue Agent

yeah, forget the bond licence - it's going to sell millions off the back of an old n64 game! :)

That made more money than the film. Didn't GE007 sell about six million copies anyway? So basically I think your meticulous market research is ... a bit crap.

And not to justify the 'GoldenEye... Golden... Eye' name tie-in, but the original 'GoldenEye' was the name of Ian Fleming's house, not a satellite laser cannon, yet no-one complains about that.

(Also, is Everything or Nothing any good?)

Coming soon:

System Shock 3, about springs in wheeled vehicles

Metal Gear Solid 4, about clocks

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, about the legend of someone called Zelda and an Ocarina which affects time

Silent Hill 5, about a really quiet hill

...you get the picture. I'm trying to be satirical.

It's not working very well.

You're mad. Stark raving bonkers loony. Now, I don't know about everyone else here, I know that my own life experiences are different to the rest of you. But I'm pretty sure that if any particular Playstation 2 owner was

A) Remotely interested in computer games during the N64 era

and B) Had any friends whatsoever

Then they WILL have heard of the game, regardless of whether they owned an N64. The pertinent question is one of how relevant the license is in todays market.

Now that I totally agree with.

Anyone who has played games in the last right years knows about Goldeneye.

Everyone of my friends, hell even my parents knew what the game was.

EA went up in my estimation recently with Bf1942 but I think it's quite pathetic of them to ty to cash in with gamers using the name of the classic game.

I'm sure I read in some Bond trivia somewhere that the Goldeneye game grossed more than the film's cinema release so it's a very well known title. Probably the only N64 game PSX fanboys secretly wished they'd had on their console back in '97.

Pity that EA have enough money to buy up the rights to everything decent going. If I had to entrust the Bond licence to any particular company at the moment, it would be Ubi Soft, as they seem to be making the best use of their licenced franchises. Who knows, they might come up with an original twist instead of EA's knack of stealing the best bits from previous games, processing them into a mediocre blend at best.

Yep, that is what I thought. Lets give it a chance!

hey the game could be ace it's just the blatant selling the game off someone elses work and the bizzare storyline.

if you were fighting against Blofeld for control over SPECTRE then it would be fine but you're not. In fact from what i can remember in the movie Goldfinger has no connections with SPECTRE. In the book he does have connections with SMERSH.

Ah damn them all to hell though the multiplayer sounds ace but why only have Fort Knox on PS2 and have Moonraker launch facility on xbox/cube.

I wants me some Fort Knox. So yeah this would be brill if it had more classic levels as multiplayer arenas, it's just the single player that's lost the plot.

Hey don't all jump to conclusions so early.

The developer interview shows some gameplay footage which looks pretty solid - http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/action/ja...ew_6095454.html

Hmmm, I don't know, I honestly think that footage is unconvincing - movement looks very un-natural and doesn't seem to flow well (which is always important in console FPS'), and the aiming looks to be the same.

The guy they interviewed did make direct reference to the original game though. :P

I'm still really not cinvinced this game will be anything more than an average shooter, which that footage, and the zany story, seem to suggest.

I have faith in EA (no really, I do). So I'm looking forward to it.

I don't have faith in EA. They killed off my favourite flight simulator series before it was even released, so they can stuff it.

I also don't hold out much hope it being any better than GE or P Dark on a single or multiplayer experience

after all they delayed EoN and that still ended up being average, still no doubt it will be a no1.. :D

Top class production expected as they're the 3rd biggest developer and should have the money to throw at it...

i just wonder when they'll be releasing it, as it will be up against Halo, Cold Winter (pls be as good as the previews i've read), Doom III, Killzone...

if its going on pc then there is some shooter due out HL2......? :P

I cant think of the top of my head whether there'll be a FPS exclusive title due out on the cube in/around the xmas schedule.

So it could be the GC format which generates the highest sales....

good point, well raised.

if it's out this year it will be in for a rough ride.

Lets face it if EA aquired the rights and source code for the original Goldeneye, upped the resolution of the graphics, added a shitload of extra multiplayer gaming and gave it away free there are some people here who would still slag it off because it's EA.

Christ, I bought my N64 just to play Goldeneye ( you should know that this was my first nintendo console and I had know idea what OOT was until I purchased edge a short while later ).

It WAS the game to make PS1 owners dead envious of N64 owners ( see above )

It is a cynical attempt to cash in on one of the most renowned games of all time, but I must say it does sound interesting, certianly more interseting than the recent Bond games have been.

Why do the latest Bond games not have the same names of the films or tie in plot wise? Surely this can only help sales ( see Goldeneye or TWINE ).

Out of interest Athlon, what was the flight simulator that EA canned?.

They didn't can Flight Unlimited 3. They simply released it before it was 100 per cent complete (the sloppy work on the taxiways at various airfields is enough to convince me of that), and they forgot to advertise it.

WANKERS.

I like the way that that guy talked about the Moonraker level as if it was a really original idea.

:P

Best level in Goldeneye that one. I was genuinely scared of going down into the Aztec ruins at the end of the level, Jaws scared the living daylights out of me!

this is EA remember they come up with all the ideas, like the melee combat. smashing someone with your gun, jeez i've always wanted that in a game.

If your character has a golden-eye , will half your vision of this cringeworthy game be impaired? Here's hoping.

You've got to complete level 5 on double-oh agent difficulty in under 35 seconds to unlock the 'Perfect 20-20 Vision' upgrade!
