Friends - The One They Ended It All

So tonight in the states, is the last ever episode of friends. To be honest I haven't watched it in a while, but it has made me chuckle on a friday night, and I can safely say I have grown up with it and remember the nights out we had and when we came back, watched friends.

So this is kind of a tribute really. Just to ask what your favourite episode is. This isn't a thread to say, "god it's shite" it's an appreciation thread. I mean there were good episodes, and some excellent episodes.

I'll go first, my favourite is the one when marcel turns into a big hollywood star, and they start singing "the mighty jungle" dunno why well i do know why.

Its gonna be strange, all this comedy series ending, dunno what I am gonna download and watch now.

I've seen 'em all, I reckon.

My favourite quotes/episodes (nb it's all in the delivery)...

In the one where Ross kisses Chandler's Mother*:

Ross: "We don't need to tell Chandler. I mean, it was just a kiss, right? One kiss. No big deal, right?"

Joey: "Right, it's no big deal...in bizarro world!"

The London episodes feat. Hugh Laurie et al. "On a break" etc.

The one where Chandler is trapped in the bank lobby when the power goes off*.

The one where everyone tells Chandler about the way he speaks*.

The one where Rachel finds out about Ross liking her*

My number one favourite is probably a tie between:

the Cathy Velveteen Rabbit one and the Cathy haircut one. I love Cathy.

Tons more. I really like it. What can I say?

* not the real episode names ;)

I can't say I remember one specific episode off the top of my head that I would say is the best, but it'd almost certainly be one of the earlier ones. Possibly around the time Chandler got Eddie as a room mate.

But yeah, Friends is great, and I do love it. I'll be sad to see it go.

All I am gonna say is that the last episode is set to be a doozie, this series has been good nice to see it go out on a high after seris 9!

Favourite quote

Rachel "Thats ok it doesnt matter"

Ross "No, I just rolled on the juice box"

or something like that!

Eddie "You didnt notice me last night, I even got out of the way when you went to the toilet"

Because I think it would be more appropriate in here, considering TV/Film hardly gets a look in, and this has been going on for like 10 years, should give it the respect it deserves and not dump it in a side folder!

Maybe I am wrong, maybe I am right. But I think it should go in here

Why is this in off topic? There's already a Friends thread in Film/TV.

Looks a bit spoilerific if you ask me. Beertiger's first post has already mentioned suff we haven't seen in the UK yet, and I'd rather not read the rest of it to spoil the last episodes of the series for me.

Or... putting this in the correct venue would promote the use of underused threads, leaving Off-Topic for exactly what it is for - stuff that cannot be catagorised into any of the other sub-headings.

god it's shite.

...and my bird insists on watching it every week on e4. how long exactly do the series last, seems like 52 episodes to me.

anyway, i have laughed ocassionally but i can't really remember at what. only that it's mainly joey. i thought last weeks french lesson was quite good, until they milked the arse out of it.

I liked the ones before they all realised how famous they had become, when it was still funny and the cast hadnt turned into skeletor(female cast)/the pilsbury dough boy(male cast)

age has not been kind to the cast or the writers

but to end on a happy note:

The episode when Joey buys the leather recliners and the big TV

Two quotes:

"Oh! Zannadu!"

"Shes one of us now"

"Is that the fire alarm?"

Chandler puts hand on floor

"Its not hot yet, we still have time"

Wow what great criticism!!

This week on any programme you like: Someone does something in character! Yay!

Does Chandler getting fat REALLY impact your enjoyment of the show? It's had its ups and downs, but for a series with SO MANY episodes I'd say the *general* consistency of the quality it pretty staggering.

There were only about 8 series (or was it 9?) of 6 episodes of Red Dwarf EVER, and 25% of them are complete crap [the rest being genius, admittedly].

Eddie's episodes by a fucking mile.

Although the episode where Joey makes the entertainment unit is brilliant also -

".. it's an electric drill! You get me, you kill me!"

Great choices/quote.

The Eddie leaving episode is a classic because it also has the self-help book in. Which is pretty funny:

PHOEBE: Oh yes. Oh and, the part about how they're always like drinking from out pool of inner power, but God forbid we should take a sip.

JOEY: Anybody want a croan.

PHOEBE: Ok, this is a typical lightning-bearer thing. Right there, it's like, um, 'Hello, who wants one of my fallic shaped man cakes?'

CHANDLER: [enters] Ding dong, the psycho's gone.

MONICA: Are you sure this time?

CHANDLER: Yes, yes I actually saw him leave. I mean that guy is standing in the window holding a human head. He is STANDING IN THE WINDOW HOLDING A HUMAN HEAD!

EDDIE: [enters] Check it out man, I tore it off some mannaquin in the alley behind Macy's.

MONICA: There is no alley behind Macy's.

EDDIE: So I got it in the junior miss department, big diff. Anyway check it out man, it's gonna make a hell of a conversation piece at out next cocktail party, huh pal?

Thank god almost all the scripts are online, huh? ;)

The One Where No-one's Ready.

Best. Episode. Ever.

"Since you hid my clothes, I'm gonna do the exact opposite to you!"

"Wh...what, you're gonna.... show me my clothes?!!"

Ah, memories.

I fear the last episode will be not very funny. The last few series have been declining steadily in the humour department. You only have to randomly pick any series 2, 3 or 4 episode to see that.

The only character who deserved a spin-off is Ross. By far and wide he's been the funniest character in the last few series, whereas most of the others have degenerated into a season one-esque mess.

I mean, chandler used to be funny, but now he's just a whipping boy. I am dreading the Joey spin off. I mean, how many jokes can you get out of a stupid person before you've done it all?

I really liked the episode where Ross is trying to accept Joey and Rachel going out together...

"I'm fine. I'm fine. I'M FINE!"

It was the way he said it, and what he was doing at the time.

The one where Eddie rambles on about a road trip him and Chandler took to Vegas, Quote from memory

“Mr Lucky here wins $800.00, buys me these shoes.”

With Chandler in the background looking totally shocked.

"We took a road trip to Las Vegas man"

"Oh sweet Moses"

My favourite Friends scene ever, trufax.

Totally agree. That episode is aces.

This series I've been a little dissapointed by the random things they've thrown in which haven't been mentioned in the ten years previous - Pheobe's frnch for example.

Bit lazy if you ask me. They're scrapping for ideas.

Still, its very consistant. The other week when Joey was on the game show I laughed a good 'un when he said "Paper...Snow...A Ghost!"

For me, it stopped becoming a must see when it finally became a soap opera comedy. Something that's clearly evident in these Friends threads - "Oh no, Spoilers!".

I never cared about the story, and this made the earlier episodes so much better. Because everyone was single (aside from the always ongoing Rachel-Ross thing), new characters could be introduced (Eddie, Cathy, Janice) to give a bit of variety, while with no running story to tie to it was very easy for them to drum something up for each episode - just like the Chandler in the lift one. It seems that the writers and producers, realising that they've got six characters in one show that people seem to love, decided that people want a story about them all. Well fuck it, that's not why people started watching in the first place.

Completely self contained. I like that in a comedy show. Red Dwarf got shit too when it started trying two-parter episodes and the like.

Goodbye you fruit-drying psychopath :)

Friends is REALLY hit and miss now, but it'll be sad to see it go. I think, like Frasier, it has out-stayed its welcome by a season or two, but now that both are ending, it's like the end of an era pretty much.

We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when!
