I hadn't really heard anything about this one until recently but I think this could be a contender for Doom's "look at me" graphics, as well as dark ambience. Here's a pic I grabbed from Gamespot. You can fight hand to hand but it's done much better than on Breakdown, with the enemy's face bruising with each hit.

Looks like a sneak-em up mixed with some classic Doom style "shoot things in the face" gameplay. I'm looking forward to its release.

I got excited after reading the Edge preview a while ago. The demo they released in the States is getting some really positive feedback as well. I remember catching a trailer for the game a month or so ago and one of the things that struck me most, apart from the lovely graphics, is the voice acting. Diesel and Ron Perlman (though he isn't in the movie as far as I know) are two of the actors involved and hearing Vin say 'What's hell without a little fire?' is badass. One to watch. The new trailer for the movie isn't half bad either.

I’ve watched a few videos it in action. It looked like a bog-standard FPS wrapped up in gorgeous Doom 3 style graphics to me, however it was being played by IGN who have a knack for showing off games badly.

I did like the bit where you can grab the enemy’s gun, and force it up under their chin before getting them to blow their own brains out. That was quite amusing.

And the fact you can sneak behind a guard and literally push him forward - straight off the edge of a cliff. Hee hee.

The dialogue is excellent. Vin Diesel just sounds really good in this, his voice is perfect. You can choose what you say when there's diologue. One of the first scenes sees Vin Diesel being taken to the prison. The bounty hunter taking him says "Today I get paid" (Or something along those lines) and you then have the two choices in what you want to say (It's actualy a choice of a subject you want to say). Anyway, one of the answers is "Today Jhon you're going to get fucked". The way its delivered is just brilliant and had us laughing.

The first thing to cross my mind about the graphics was "Wow, Doom 3", but the gameplay is looking pretty good too.

I remember hearing that Vin Diesel funded his own development studio a while back. Is this by them?

They contributed yes, but the main game is being done by a Swedish studio called Starbreeze if I'm not mistaken.

It really is quite impressive.

Reminds me of a much more advanced version of "Breakdown" (which I also loved!)

I found it quite scary how much it actually looks like Vin, (you can tell its him even from the shadow). And as Monkichi says his voice helps set the atmosphere perfectly.

Whens it out?

13th of August over here. Looks like an import jobbie.

I played the xbox demo, has that same shimmery watery look at Wreckless did, the hand to hand combat seems a wee bit better than breakdown, but not much, gunplay seems pretty uninspired, and it's awfully buggy, the camera glitches through the bits of your body you can see and there's a shitload of clipping.

aye, but it's only a demo so I'm not too disappointed to here that. Shit...wasn't expecting this at all. I'm going to wait and see what the forum thinks of the full game and proceed on that basis. I'll probably need something to fill lthe void that Deus Ex IW is going to leave in its wake.

Very surprised by Gamespots score. They hate everything. 9.3 is really a rather good score to give, so off the back of that, I'm psyched: I just want to play this and see what all the fuss is about.

It's official: the traditional summer drought is a thing of the past. Surely I'm not the only one here who feels royally spoilt for choice? I feel pretty well served, what with this, Sudeki and Full Spectrum Warrior all out over the coming months.

If anything, it's a bit of a pisser. In previous years I've used the summer months to work my way through a backlog of uncompleted games. This year I may not actually get that chance. Man, it's a hard knock life.

Just finished watching the trailer, and I've come away gobsmacked. There are just so many things that clearly make Riddick the fantastic game that so many reviewers are touting it to be.

From what I saw, character models and environments looked to be just a shade under DOOM 3 levels. For an Xbox, that isn't just impressive: a miracle sounds closer.

Oh, and here's a question for you: out of all the FPS' you've ever played do you vividly remember casting a shadow? I certainly don't, not ever. Well in Riddick, I don't know what they've done, but they've conjured up a trickbox of dynamic lighting effects that actually impact on you as the player.

And Jesus H Christ, the likeness of Vin Diesel? Can you even tell them apart? Could I be anymore impressed? Seriously now, all Chanderlisms aside, it is Vin Diesel. Almost exactly like him, especially in terms of character animation. Brilliant looking.

There's a dozen other things in the trailer I posted that looked amazing, but these stood out - that and there's only so much you can be sure of from a non-interactive trailer, right? Anything gameplay wise that looks cool will have to wait until one of us plays it, I guess!

Good God I hope this is as good as it looks. Because it looks really, really good. I just can't believe that it's taken until its U.S. release for me to even know it existed. Amazing.
