Monkichi 2.0

DVDBoxoffice will take about 7 years to deliver it. Should have gone with videogames.ca as linked at the top. Usually delivered in up to 7 days.

Do you know I'm not kidding when I say that I ordered a La Pucelle Tactics strategy guide from them before I got the game and i've completed it now and they've not sent it out yet. fucking hell

I think Chronicles of Riddick is definitely a better 1 player game than Halo. It's got the same level of control and weapon sophistication but you can do a lot more things and the levels are a lot better realised.

Have just this moment finished - what a great great game, full of twists and plenty of variety.

Everytime you think you're out... they pull you back in

Some special highlights in the closing moments -

The thingies that get released after the bomb make the whole game like Doom 3, thinking you were out and then going to the cryo-prison. And then you get o pilot one of those mech things - woot  Super cool, this is a game with serious attitude

I played through on a chipped box BTW, but didn't hit a save corruption problem

Currykitten, did you hear the massive battlemech you pilot at the end say the quotes in my signature? It was so funny! Also that was the most impressive gaming sequence ever ever ever ever everrrr The bit just after that though, I kept charging forward and dying, not noticing the door behind me because I thought I opened the two doors the camera sweeps to ha ha

I think I must have completed it at the same time as you or just before. The extras from collecting all the ciggy packets are crap though, first thing I checked when I finished. The whole chapter of the book of Chronicles of Riddick is on there, but who's going to read it in-game, with all the slidey cube animating and the font it uses?

I wouldn't go that far. It was quite fun, but the thing is a bitch to move.

God knows how people can enjoy realistic mech games, Steel Battalion must be a real barrel of laughs.

Overall, Riddick just made me want Doom 3 really badly. If it's like the Xeno bit with scarier monsters and more destructive weapons then it'll be sugar.

I said impressive, not easy to control or particularly full of gameplay. The graphics! The Style! the extremely funny computer tactics voiceover!

Isn't the Xbox running on a Geforce 3 or something? They deserve a medal for getting better than Doom 3 graphics out of the Xbox. The style too, everybody but the main bad guy looks real and the animations are perfect in every little detail and nuance right down to Riddick flexing his fingers as he leaps over a wall

Hey, it beats driving back through a level in a fucking buggy, I'll give it that.

Still, I'd rather have used one of the smaller mech things, now that would have been fun.

I didn't hear those specific quote Juria, but I liked the ones it said whilst I was working out how to pilot it.

*me rams into wall*

"Pilot suggestion... don't bump into stuff"

Was it me, or was that voice just perfect ni it's sarcastic tone

As has been said, it's not necessarily the gameplay this game had - though this was very good. It was the way everything hung together, it was just..... right. Riddick inside the mech for example, or the way the bullets on a high powered weapon fly all over. Or the way those little monsters try and get in the vent like you're in a scene from Alien. Just top notch in presentation terms. I still can't believe such a great game has come from a movie license.

Nope. Bollocks.

I'm not so sure I want to play it all over again, only for it to corrupt my save file again. Is this a proper know problem then? Has anyone played it all the way through with saves, and it's been fine? (on a chipped box)

clive, if you've got a chipped xbox try clearing your cache then trying again. If that doesnt work just download a new save from www.xboxsaves.com

I have a question regarding riddick from torrent.

On the last five levels or so of Ninja gaiden I noticed the texture quality took a massive nosedive compared to earlier in the game. it was only actually noticable in cutscenes but it was really obvious.

Now, playing Chronicles of riddick and i'm getting the same issues in game. basically, half the characters (like the black bump mapped guy with the serious abs) look amazing, while otherslike riddick himself and the guy in the courtyard who tells you to kill rust look really jaggy and low res.

Now, both of these games I got from bit torrent (yes yes I know, but i've since bought Gaiden), so i'm just wondering if maybe they are compressed to make downloading quicker, or that they've not FTP'd or unzipped properly. Its just I havent had an issue with any games i've played from Disk. maybe its an issue with running games from hard drive. i dunno, but if anyones got any advice i'd appreciate it. the characters are so well drawn in Riddick that its really affecting my enjoyment.

.

I'd have thought it was very unlikely that the pirates were fiddling about with that sort of stuff: they just want to get their rip out first. Maybe some charactares who appear in small, simple envirnoments are designed to be higher poly, and those in large complicated areas have lower levels of detail to keep the framrate up. Just a guess.

but Riddick himself is really jaggy.

well then this isnt the visual showcase its been built up to be. Its the jaggiest game i've ever seen and is really quite ropey to look at. And only Krypty has reported something similar. which makes me think we are sharing the same torrent.

I cant believe there isnt something wrong

Nah, mate, Riddick is quite jaggy in some of the cut scenes and I have the proper NTSC version. In game, the cut scenes for when he's climbing ladders and using the Nanomed machines, he's smooth as pie. The talking head cut scenes though are a bit listless and seem rushed. It's not your copy Kerraig.

well then thats really quite dissapointing. Just spoke to Poet who also said the abs guy looked amazing but others look quite bad. Hate to sound like a big gay graphics whore but its seriously damaging my enjoyment. The atmosphere being one of the main components of this games fun, its just dragging me right out.

Trust me, mate, it gets better as it goes on. To me it looks like a recent PC game run at a lower res than you would be used to on a PC and with little Anti Aliasing on the characters. Up close, the wall textures are quite low res too, but most of the characters in game are really good. Try looking at the guard's armour when you've killed one. Very swish!

And just wait until you get to the mines and the rotating blades... So much fun... B)

i tell ya one thing that did impress. i know its just a texture, but 'BEST BULLET HOLES EVAR!!!!!" Just fucking up corpses looks unbelievably brutal.

It's nice when they hit the wall too. They glow red hot for a few seconds before visibly cooling. Very nice.

It is bloody lovely to look at, but it's the valley thing that someone was posting about the other day. The closer it gets to reality, the more we notice the faults. Riddick is probably techincally the best looking console game around at the moment (prog scan on the projector is just  ).

I think CoR demonstrates that Valley effect quite nicely, and also shows that it can be overcome. Riddick himself is perfect; nothing eerie about him at all. Some of the weaker models, though, are a bit creepy in comparison.

Oh, and as an aside, when you first get down into the mining rec area (with the fighting circle) look for an NPC named Thunder. He's cool as fuck. Check out his voice and his horrible scar.

I thought that most people looked great except the main bad guy who runs the prison. I thought Riddick looked exactly like Vin Diesel, he's MEANT to look a bit weird, like Vin Diesel!
