You're wrong as a wrong 'un here Kerraig - the graphics are unbelievable. Damn and blast your very eyes.

Speaking of graphics, the characters heads appear to be deformable meshes. I know this because I've been repeatedly shooting dead people's craniums and zooming in on the resulting carnage. Blood sprays up the walls as well!

Zany!

You are a sick, sick man, Clive. "I'm just interested in game physics!" you'll yell as they drag you off to the loony bin.

Kerraig, man, for the last time. That is normal. In game talking head cut scenes look a lot jaggier than in game. A lot. In game, all the character models look fine. Have you climbed a crate, used the Nanomed machines or gone up a ladder? The Riddick model is fucking perfect, but in the cut scenes where you talk to another character it suffers from a little tearing and quite a bit of jaggies. I'm playing an original copy as well, not a YARR! version. I don't think there is anything wrong with your version.

I put it down to the fact that the talking cut scenes have just been compressed a little too heavily for some reason, leading to the jaggies you speak of, as when it's rendering it on the fly, it's excellent. It's bizarre, but the game does look worse in the cut scenes.

But... 99% of the cut-scenes are done with the in-game engine. Only the intro, the bit where he gets his eyeshine, and the ending after the credits are FMV.

I spent so much time shooting corpes up. the bulletholes are brutal and its the best blood colour i've ever seen in a game.

Y'know what else would be amazing: If it had the manhunt headset system of calling attention to the guards, but with Vin Diesel voice masking!

Can't believe I seem to be THE ONLY person on this forum without a chipped Xbox.

And there was me wondering what to do with my £150 petty cash.

There's me.

But I've been sitting wondering about getting one (which can be translated as "prevaricating over PMing Yod@") since meeting you lot last week.

..watching my legs neatly bounce and twist across every bump in the floor with a big smile on my face as they do so.

one time in Riddick when I pushed a knocked out guard off the side of a ledge with the drag function his head caught on a ladder and his neck stretched about 3 meters and then the whole body wiggled around everywhere, it was really strange

Finished it today.

Excellent stuff. Really enjoyed it. Tried it on hard and by lord it is!

Still, the ending section when you get in the big old mech thingy is just really good. A really good sense of controlling that thing and some great one liners as well.

I'd give the game 8 cheeseburgers out of an Elvis Lunch of 10.

Well, I finally got my copy delivered today (after a couple of weeks humming and harring about it...).

It's great. Really great. Especially so, as before the good vibes started appearing on the forum, I'd really just expected yet another bog standard FPS. Sure, it's not gonna change the world or anything, but it feels just right. The start - as mentioned waaaay bad, before Laine started slobbering over Mr Diesel - is superb. Also, it's pretty much the first game I've played which uses naughty words without embarrasing the hell out of me.

Developers...putting in 'fuck' is all well and good, but shoving it in without context ensures you will be ridiculed...by me, at least.

Also, all the voice-acting is great. Vin might not be an actor with much variety, but Riddick is a part made for him, and as such he's doing everything right in the voice-overs here.

Graphics are fantastic. Great lighting, superb animation, and truly magnificent characters - the likeness of Riddick to the actual is amazing really.

It's taking me a wee while to fully get to grips with the controls, but I'm a bit of a duffer when it comes to FPS's at the best of times (on console, at least), so it's not worrying me.

Brill stuff. Suprise of the year by far, and well worth buying.

Anyone know if a game of the upcoming film is planned ? must have more Riddick....

I'd guess yes.

Was the game made by Vin Diesel's own company? Or published by them or something? On the credits that for some reason I watched there was a company listed with Diesel as the Executive Producer. I think the fact that he put himself, his voice et al in the game is really cool.

(this may have been covered on an earlier page, but I haven't bothered reading them, so if it is the case - sorry!)

Probably not. Butcher Bay is the companion game to the new Chronicles movie, after all.

It was made jointly with Diesel's company and Starbreeze, and distributed by Vivendi Universal.

I've been getting stuck into this over the weekend and a little today and i've just reached the Upper Mines. I've also hit a complete brick wall

I'm at the Upper Mines, I have no weapon, its light so guards can see me pretty easy, and theres no way in hell I can do any kind of sneaking around, i've had about 12 goes at getting through but it just seems like a section i'm supposed to have a weapon for...

Looks like I may have to go back a few checkpoints as I cant head back up in the lift because I dont have the security code, bugger.

Anyway what i've done so far is absolutely fantastic stuff, although i'm never too keen on fighting 'alien' type enemies so that bit was the low point so far.

The visuals and audio are blowing me away, especially the Bruckheimer-ish Rock/Pirates of the Caribean music. Classy

Nope, you're supposed to be unarmed.

There's a hidden vent shaft just above the elevator you rode in on that provides you with an easier route, but be prepared to rush the occasional soldier and turn his gun around on him.

I got stuck in the same fashion, believing I should have a weapon - once I unlearned what I had been taught by previous stealthy games (i.e. don't be seen, EVAAAAAR!) it all falls into place. Riddick is the kind of person who rushes people and sticks a screwdriver in their throat. Perfect characterisation implemented into the game. Love it.

I misunderstood lilman, I thought he was at the Mine Entrance, but sure enough - you're not supposed to have a gun at the Upper Mines, either.

Be patient. You can tackle armed guards head on, provided there's not too much open ground between you and them. Sneak as close as possible, rush them and hack at them - if they try and hit you, turn their gun on them.

Once you get used to the fact that you're actually a pretty efficient killer even without a weapon, those sections stop seeming so tough. You'll be getting a small gun, soon. You just have to clear that next bit.

I finished it over the weekend. I had an absolute blast with Riddick - far more fun than I ever got from Halo, I might add. Every second was fun and nothing felt tacked on. Much like Prince of Persia in 2003, Riddick is 2004's big surprise bag o' joy.
