The Chronicles of Riddick

Monkichi 2.0

Ty Hitcher, I learn something new everyday. The Riddick demos pretty nice. I think things generally need a little tightening but its quite fun adn the graphics are stunning. I like the minimalism as well. No ammo counter - look at the gun. No "health bar", but 4 squares that come up when taking damage. Makes you feel more like you are the character. Climbing around and hiding like Splinter Cell is nicely done so it plays differently to a normal FPS. Though one thing I was expecting was night vision a la the thing he had done to his eyes. I'm looking forward to this one, seems very promising. I can't kill that stupid mech thingy though.

I couldn't escape - the doors were locked. I assume you climb on the boxes then. I was too busy playing hide and seek with the shotgun. Menus system is cool as well.

Just run onto the lift it came down on. Took me a while to realise that.

Glad someones finally mentioned the menu, Its quite funky

I thought that was the eye shine as well at first but try looking into the dark with it. Doesn't do anything. I think it's just so you know you're stealthed. According to Pitch Black he can see clearly in the dark but has trouble with light. I'm assuming the game is set pre-op.

"I have to shut down that fan"

The gamespot review hints towards events happening in-game that explain some of his background.

Im expecting the eye shine to be one of them

God this is gonna be so good!

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is a game about Riddick and his escape from Butcher Bay - where you'll learn how he got his eyes shined by the mysterious Pope Joe - and you'll meet characters that go on to appear both in Pitch Black and in The Chronicles of Riddick.

I'd better play better than that trailer made it look. It seemed thoroughly generic. The first-person fisticuffs sound like a bad idea as well.

First person view = hard to judge distance = need for projectiles.

Halo melee attacks.

I like having the option of a melee attack when you suddenly find yourself in close quarters or the enemy is unsuspecting, but in Halo it was always one hit then back to guns. I don't like the idea of using melee attacks for protracted encounters. I can't be the only person who finds the view in an FPS a bit of a pain when you're up close.

You can kill it not sure how exactly he killed me first time, but second time i just shot a clip into his back and he went down, i did run over to the lift but nothing came up by the button to let me press it so i thought i had to kill it and as soon as i did i could go up the lift. This is on the full game though, so maybe it's different to the demo.

Well it's good enough that I sat down and completed it in one sitting (9 hours). 8/10, I'd say. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is wel-judged and the atmosphere is spot-on. You could do a lot worse in the run-up to Halo 2.

Two things:

1. VGP are really fast, I'll definitely be using them again.

2. This game is pretty damn good. The counter attacks are lots of fun.

All VGP orders - I hope you said you are from RLLMUK on your orders! If not - email them back now and rectify!

Cheers :)

Well I downloaded the IGN insider review earlier and was v surprised. For some reason I expected this to be extreamly shite - but after seeing it in action I'm wholly impressed.

A definate buy when it comes out over here methinks!

*edit* What arse-cakes! It's not out until the 13th of August. Over TWO MONTHS. I would be quicker to get my Xbox chipped during that time...
