i got an R3 copy from cd-wow for £8.99. the transfer quality doesn't appear great. it looks a little washed out but maybe that's just how it looks anyway. still, an enjoyable film nonetheless.

Arsebiscuits :) I'll have to watch it tonight. Does it make any difference if you change the tv colour settings? I've got 'cinema' and 'classic' 'teleivision' and 'personal' settings, don't know if you do. that could correct it or maybe we've got what we've paid for

Are the subs any good or are they like Shaolin Soccer?

its not *that* good but it is great fun, really quite funny at times and often sad.

The scence where the ronin goes to get his revenge was particulary moving.

But you'll bound to love it if you like samurai films, though try to pretend those stabbings aren't CGI.

It was about a million times better than that cock Kill Bill, and eveyrone loves that shit for some reason.

I loved Kill Bill, but after watching this I realised it wasn't as good as I thought it was.

Which was a bit of a shame and a bit of an excellent at the same time.

I liked kill bill, but I prefer this movie. In the action department the swordplay is at the same time fantastic (the sheating/unsheating) without straying from reasonably proper grip, stances and cutting motions. Uma only barely realises which end of the sword is the sharp bit, and the swordplay is only filmed to 'look' cool. She could have been taking out at any time in most of her fights if her opponent simply took a step forward in basic guarding stance. It stil looked very cool though and I enjoyed it.

Another aspect that I like in Zatoichi, is the humanity of the characters. Something that is missing from Kill Bill, that really only has one character in all roles. Still, apart from the fact that they both feature swords the films are incomparable and totally different really.

To someone like myself though, who is quite unfamilar to martial art films of any sort, the fact that both feature swords makes them comparable and totally similar really. <_<

mine's just on the setting it comes with, factory setting or whatever. most stuff looks ace on it though. Zatoichi doesn't look bad but when you compare if to something like Kill Bill (transfer quality that is) it looks a bit shite, a bit low budget.

the subs are a bit horrible too with quite fat black outlines.

but it saying all that it's a great movie.
