Pokemon Colosseum

Well Iam...

Played about 4 hours last night and this morning and it's decent. It can seem very slow and repetitive, but no more than the GB versions, i've actually found i've beaten most Pokemon so far with the same duo you start with and probably the same combination of moves over and over again.

Not great but i'm still compelled to play. I dont like the fact that you dont actually catch Pokemon, you 'steal' them, so building up your collection doesnt quite seem so good. And also the fact that your main Pokemon start at level 25 (I think...) means it loses some of the magic of nurturing them from the start.

I'm gonna carry on because wihout being able to pinpoint why, i'm enjoying it a lot, and its a welcome break from the franticness that is Ninja Gaiden.

Seems pretty darn good to me. Its like the GB games without the wandering through grass and stuff inbetween, though that was probably my favourite part... :angry: The battles are excellent in a Pokemon Stadium type way and you fight in pairs which adds a slightly new tactical edge to it.

Like I said though, it seems very easy and if you dont like battling Pokemon as opposed to just catching and raising, its a bit dull.

Im sorry im a massive fan of ALL the Pokemon GBA games but this is just poor imo it lack depth, character and is just too easy and short for a Pokemon game.

Nintendo get it right next time eh??

When you finish story mode can you take the snagged pokemon over onto your pokemon ruby/sapphire game?

My daughter wants to have Umbreon and Espeon on her GBA. She's loving story mode and I'm grateful it doesn't have as much depth as the GBA version. She's clocked up about 70 hours on her GBA game as she uses it in the car but I wouldn't fancy her spending that much time on the cube or when would I get a go.

Yes, apparently when you beat the final boss you get a trade machine to move your Pokemon to and from Ruby/Sapphire, so it's a nice reward.

I played a bit of the solo-adventure yesterday, good stuff although not a patch on the Game Boy games, but fun. Then I went over the Battle Mode and just had a few fights with the Sapphire 'mons, the graphics are actually quite lovely, and it's always fun seeing your hard trained critters up in glrious 3D.

Really, if you love the Game Boy games then this game is great, otherwise avoid. The main thrill, as with the Stadium games is using your GB Pokemon, the solo quest is just a nice bonus really.

.::: Let me kickstart this thread;

Multiplayer requires the use of additional GBA's for each player above one to a maximum of four players in total.

Yeah, cos it's not like Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire players will own GBA's is it?

:lol:;):lol::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

.::: Ok, YOU explain it to the upset mother in our shop yesterday, who got angry at Nintendo, because she had bought FOUR controllers already, but there was still no way in hell her kids could play four player Pokémon as they had no GBA's.

Not all people buy everything concerning a franchise.

.::: We're talking about Pokémon Colosseum, dear.

Yeah, which is really an extension to the GBA games.

It would be pointless to buy Colossseum if you don't have the GBA games to start with, which is another missed opertunity by Nintendo to bring the true quality of the GBA games to a home console but thats another argument.

Into which you upload your creatures from your own personal copy of Ruby or Sapphire for multiplayer, dear.

Thusly why it would be assumed that each player would have their own GBA.

Dear.

.::: Some people don't own a GBA. Some people do own a GC. Some poeple still like Pokémon though. So they buy Colosseum and then get to play multiplayer with one controller and multiple GBA's needed.

With FFCC I could understand but with this... Why not let four players choose out of predefinied pokémon-sets like the single player battle mode? The fact that player one can use a controller while all the others are forced to use GBA's is very much madness.

As I said not everyone buys all the franchise stuff. I like the idea of connectivity, but this one is forced without much reason. A bit odd as Stadium didn't force this (IIRC).

Stadium didn't force it, but the selection of built-in Pokemon was so limited, the only way to get maximum enjoyment out of it is if every player had their own copy of Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow or Gold/Silver/Crystal and a Game Boy Transfer Pak (each player needed their own transfer Pak too.

Stadium and Colloseum really are just big screen expansions of the handheld titles. To get maximum enjoyment, it's best to bring your own Pokemon collection from your personal copy of the game. It is otherwise playable, but you miss out on a huge amount of stuff.

You're arguing a different point.

What you want is a multiplayer Pokemon game that doesn't require use of GBAs, but the formula of these games has been to upload you're Pokemon from the GBA games to play in multiplayer. You really need a GBA just to be able to put something in to the multiplayer to play with.

What you're suggesting like many Pokemon fans are is that Nintendo should stop arsing about with Pokemon on home consoles, and release a proper Pokemon game that isn't in some way just a half-arsed expansion pack to the GBA games.

Colosseum is really a expansion pack to the GBA games.

Watched my nephews play it for a few hours. Tacked on? I wish. Taped on more like. With crappy cheapo 49p for five imitation sellotape. That's been used before. I had really, really hoped that of all people Nintendo wouldn't go on the quick cash in route; that they'd actually deliver something as good as Silver was, but in glorious 3d(ruby/sapphire? pah! you finish it and what do you get? a TOWER! oooh!) They'd better pull their fingers out soon or the franchise is going to lose it's power.... Ah, who am I kidding, kids'll buy turds if you stamp them with pikachus face.

And another thing; its on a disc now, so where's the voice samples? I wanna hear "PIKA!!!" as my yellow rat attacks.

I thought Sapphire was great. Didn't quite keep me interested long enough to train all of my monsters up to lv100 (unlike Red- 180 hours...) but the excellent core game remained, and it's still absorbing from start to finish.

I should really get over this obsession. Well, after Red and Green are re-released.

I don't think I'll be buying Colosseum though, it just doesn't look all that interesting to be honest. Out of interest, does if give you the option to play speeded-up, like in Stadium? That was genius. Smash through the Elite 4 in 5 minutes, repeat to fade.
