Super Smash Bros Melee

Not a fan. I realise I must be missing something, because obviously others derive a lot of fun from it, but I just don't get it at all. I go back to it periodically to try and see if it'll click this time, but it never does. Definitely in my three "least played" cube games.

If even half the games I played demonstrated the attention to detail and developmental enthusiasm that SSBM exhibited, I'd be a far happier gamer. Obviously the style of play isn't going to suit everyone - I can recognise that the Pro Evo games are very well done soccer titles, but that doesn't make me want to play them - but for me, SSBM was the best game I played on the GC, closely followed by Monkey Ball.

I don't see how anyone could resist a round of combat on the Rainbow Cruise level with a well-chosen set of combatants. Or a Pokeball-flinging riot in the Stadium... Or an hour of trying to take vaguely pornographic photographs of Yoshi and Peach.

DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL! If I have to go out and buy another Cube just to play SSBM again, I will wreak a terrible revenge.

Yes your right that must be it

If it is primarily a multiplayer game then that is a further tick in the 'pile of shit' column as far as I'm concerned.

The day developers forget to included decent single player elements in their games is the day I give up gaming.

SSB:M has had more effort put into its one-player elements than any other fighting game in the history of gaming. this is a FACT. other fighting games just give you the multiplayer, but with AI.

and anyway, lots of games are primarily multiplayer. I bet you think Bomberman is shit.

I never play games in multiplayer so any game who's focus is multiplayer is shit in my book.

As I said if all games go this way I'll be giving up gaming.

Bit marmite-y isn't it?

I love it to teeny weeny pieces myself. Anyone who thinks its random, is simply not very good at it I'm afraid.

Guilty as charged, your honour.

But it doesn't even interest me enough to make me want to play through to a level where that's not longer the case I'm afraid :)

It was crap, and I really wanted to like it. I loved the original like a child but this felt over complex. There was way too much happening on screen - especially four playe4r - and the controls were pretty dodgy. THe mini games also lacked the sparkle of the first.

This isn't "an appreciation", it's "an advert", even to the point where it includes a link that will earn you money if people use it to buy the game! You could at least point that out, it's a bit sneaky mate.

Seeing as Jumble's original point has been totally ignored by Mr. Sack, I thought I'd quote it a few times here :

Not so easy to ignore now, eh?

Exactly. Only Mr. RLLMUK should be able to have these clickthroughs to cover the cost of the forum.

I didn't think much of it. The characters barely had any moves to mess with. It felt very random, as others have similarly thought.

These threads are now officially as annoying as NEG's 'Shock!' threads.

True, there aren't that many moves, but there are enough. Air dodge, charge with B, normal attack, smash attack, charged smash attack (A and a direction), grab, and the rest.

But that's what makes it so great. Plus all the items. I don't see how it can be classed as random at all though.

Managing a rolling dodge behind the opponent and throwing em off screen is amazing, though nothing can beat an excellent double-kill SMAaaASSHH! with the baseball bat, and the scorching zing sound it makes as it makes contact!

Love it.

God, nothing beats doing this to my mate. It pisses him off to a incredible degree. It doesn't matter that he's brilliantr and I'm shit, Smaaasshhhhhh followed by "Heh heh heh" is all I need to gain the moral victory.

It's not random, it's uncontrollable rubbish!

if you gave it a bit more time and played it with someone who knows what they're doing (in my case, my brother... who btw is still better than me :) ) then you'd find it is anything but uncontrolable (and clearly not rubbish  )

I remember the incredibly tense matches I used to have with my mates on this :)

One thing I liked about it was you could just go in throwing weapons and bashing buttons, but once you had mastered the game fights became so deep and skillful.

I can't play the single-player anymore. After playing it to death, I find it mind-numbingly boring. I should get my mates round again and have a bash at the multi-player.
