Super Smash Bros Melee

I don't play games in multiplayer, either. My friends don't like videogames.

I'm in the same situation.

And even if all my friends loved videogames and all games went multiplayer I would still give up gaming as that's not why I play 'em.

I think it's great. But then again, myself and my brother played the original pretty much to death. I don't play it all that much these days, but occasionally we'll have a 'quick' battle then end up with about 100 kills each to our names.

However, Jolly is most definitely right- I can see why some people hate it. It still infuriates me sometimes, not least those fucking explosive boxes.

I wish Nintendo had decided to put the trophy hunting feature into another game. I really want to see all the little nostalgia monuments and unlock all the lockable characters yet can't motivate myself enough to play the game for this very purpose.

There muste be a website that has pictures of them all?

Sorry to drag up an old topic but after buying this yesterday (selling my original copy due to getting a panny Q and at the time freeloader wasnt out) and it's brought back all kinds of memories.

Im sure i unlocked more than ive got though, i thought i had luigi but it appears i dont. >_<

I love all the little touches in it, such as the Fzero track and all the cars wizzing by in the background, or the slightly reworked music. The graphics are top notch, theres something about the characters, they look like they are made out of clay or plastic, really nicely done.

Theres also the super fast loading times, you go between levels faster than a curry through your arse hole. And the levels where you have 6 characters on screen at once fighting you, just loverly as you smash 5 of them at once into the air.

SSBM is one of the best games I own, if not in the world!

The single player is huge and varying, not to mention challenging, took me forever to get all but one of the trophies.

And then you have the multiplayer, absolute genius, never ending fun, I have wasted so many afternoons playing this to death till my hands go numb and my eyes square. Those that say it is crap and tedious have not put in the time to see what the game really is.

Plus the way the move combinations are all the same might ruin it for some, but makes it instantly accessable and very easy to pick up and get good at. It is da best!

I love Smash Bros. Melee, although I don't think I'd enjoy it if it wasn't for captian falcon... the characters just aren't balanced, at all.

4player matches with captain falcon on Hyrule Castle are an absolute joy, though. It's been our regular multiplayer game of choice, gamecube wise, for years now.

Best thing about this game is the box it comes in.

Had it since Japanese release and it IS, as someone else rightly put it, uncontrollable nonsense.

Anyone who says otherwise is a bit of a Nintendo fanboy.

But I do like the box, which is why I've kept it.

This is a bit of a silly comment to make.

There are plenty of people in this thread who have stated their love for this game. So they are all fanboys, right?

Maybe its you thats missing something :D

You can't compare Smash Bros to VF Evo.

That's like comparing Super Mario Kart to Gran Turismo.

It's not the same as that because the two games you mentioned have excellent control systems.

SSBM simply isn't very good, and people wouldn't be talking about it now if it didn't have all the Nintendo characters in it. If you persevered with it and got some enjoyment out of it then, well, good for you. But you could've been playing Super Mario Kart or something instead.

I'd like to add there is nothing wrong with being a fanboy.

I just felt it was my duty to remind anyone reading this thread and thinking of buying SSBM that i) some people have a poor taste in games, and/or ii) their opinion may be clouded by their love of a particular developer.

Maybe one to rent then. A marmite game if you will.
