I thought they'd cancelled Peel for a minute there

Firstly, if you're a snobby, ignorant, moaning, cynical tit who's only come in here to say 'Radio 1 is shit!!111' cock off now.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/schedule/july04.shtml

They're basically trimming off the crap [Dave Pearce is gone from weekdays! :(] so that they can get Zane Lowe in for more annoying hours. He'll start at 7pm the first four days, and will end at 9pm.

The problem now is that the shows that follow [Peel  and Lamacq ] will end at fucking 1am. 1-AY-EM. At least they havn't totally axed Peely, or sliced his hours like they did with Lamacq 18 months ago.

This also means that the wicked Breezeblock won't be over until 3am! :(

The shows wedged between Zane and Peel are:

  • Mike Davies
  • Bobby Friction & Nihal
  • Annie Mac

Davies...yeah. I 'spose. I wouldn't make an effort to listen to him if I wasn't up, but it would pull in the audice.

Bobby Friction & Nihal? Hrm. They're wicked but in the middle of the week?! I dunno.

Annie Mac, now, sounds tasty. I hope. If it's mostly the cheesy trancey guff that Pearce would mix up then no. If it's mostly the thumping, raw, electro tunes that Lamacq always manages to squeeze out on a Monday, maybe even with a few German Gems that Peel whips out...yay!

They've also brought Trevor Nelson into weekday play more, which is about the only good thing to come out of this that I'm seeing on paper. They've axed his splendid Sunday night slot, but brought him into the Friday daytime line-up.

I'm saddened they've not cropped Jo Whiley's airtime to accomodate the extra shows better, so I can get to bed.

Andy Parfitt seems to have forgotten he's running the flagship Radio Station of the British Broadcasting Corporation. First Lamacq got shunted, then Mark and Lard went [i've still not adjusted from that] and now Peel is getting nudged into the graveyard area in favour of more Zane Americanised Aussie Lowe and his OTT attitude to playing MTV drivel.

And no, listening to the shows online isn't the same thing. Especially with recording. But it looks like something I'll be doing a lot more of...:) :)

Bloody hell, the Zaney one may be a cuntsack and a half, but he don't half get around a bit. He must be a busy lad, what with having to lead his kerayzee lifestyle at the same time.

Ta for this info McNeillr. Sounds like this schedule might actually fit in better with my work/sleep cycle; woo!

Actually, while I'm here.. do you (or anyone else) listen online much? I used to loads, but then the streams became really tempramental (even on this speedy uni connection).

It could be much worse ... Actually, I think that timetable looks pretty good

Good points:

- Sara Cox is gone. Probably only for her baby, but hopefully forever.

- The Lockup moved to a listenable time

- Colin & Edith still on 5 days a week, and an hour longer a day. They are easily the best daytime presenters Radio 1 has now

- The Nations cut down a bit. Sorry, I know this is important for up-and-coming bands and stuff, but it is embarrasingly poor compared to the rest of Radio 1's output (in Wales at least)

- Peel is still there (he's only moved an hour later, right? That's not too bad)

- The decent, evening music seems to start an hour earlier now, which cannot be a bad thing, even if it is Zane Lowe (I don't mind him that much personally)

Bad points:

- Scott Mills text-message reading boredom 5 days a week

- Chris Moyles is still alive

- The Rock Show and Breezeblock have pretty much been shelved, haven't they (used to start at midnight, I think?)

- Lamancq rapidly disappearing for no good reason

Who are JK and Joel, btw?

The quality is pants and it's not as easy for me to record, so no.

Where? I only see him listed as really late midweek. Still Im glad they've moved Giles Peterson into Trevors sunday night slot - I probably won't forget to listen so much now.

Its good they've moved the cock Zane earlier cause I never listen to the radio at that time - yay!

He's on Wednesday night late now, and Friday. He's just swapped the Sunday slot with Giles, which is a fitting replacement.

Peel being moved an hour later is good for me, although he should obviously be on primetime every weekday. He's been moved later/earlier for years, depending on the current radio 1 agenda.

Zane Lowe - what a cunt*

Seriously though - I thought that Moyles was the master of bad-vibes radio, but at least he's obvious. The insidious soul-infection that is Lowe takes the biscuit.

*obligatory

I used to listen to Lamacq religiously, but then when they announced Zane Lowe - (cunt) was effectively replacing him, that was me done with radio 1. Well, done after Colin finished filling in whilst Lowe thwapped off in the background.

I heard about M&L leaving, too - seriously, why would you want to listen to radio 1 now?

Lamacq is a banana milkshake sipping sap. Fool is straight up out of touch.

Can I have that in English please?

No offence, but I think in terms of flagship stations, Radio 1 comes after 4 and after 2 (2 even has Brad Pitt presenting a one off radio documentary thing!).

So they tout Radio 1 as being the biggest Radio station in the world every half hour...because it's smaller than Radio 2 and 4 then?

Who mentioned JK and Joel? Oh jesus. They've not blagged their way onto radio 1, have they?

If so, they're ex-breakfast presenters on Manchester's Key 103. Nice enough blokes (I used to do Kerrang MCR from the same building when they were on) but not exactly R1 material. A bit too wacky/ zany, I think. Still, fair play to them...

11-1?

Fuck that shit. Seriously.

What's Annie Mac's show gonna be like?

THATS WHAT IM DEBATING

Seeing as they still have the Breezeblock and lost Pearce pumping his trance dirge, it's probably going to be close to the latter than former ;)

Having said that, anything's leftfield compared to davey boy.

I'm recalling the times when Mark and Lard were announcing the days lineup, and calling Pearce the 'scholar of Radio 1' and other comical piss takes. Aaaaah yes. *sniff*

I liked it when the wkd brigade would phone. And request something by dj trancetrousers. And then. They would shout chooooon.

I liked that.

Memories are too painful.

I'm trying to revise and look at the system, only to have the cold motionless CD/MD play back at me at 2pm, and not the 'keeping me sane' vibes of M&L ;)

I'm fairly sure radio 2's listener figures dwarf those of radio 1; certainly the breakfast show does.

Zane Lowe - can't stand him. Surely a requirement for being on the radio is having a voice that doesn't grate a listeners ears within seconds? Obviously not.

The rest of it - well, I guess I've listened to radio 1 for probably a sum total of <5hrs since M&L departed ;)

Mind you, R2 is fast closing the gap between the two stations. Stuff I've heard on there recently includes Nirvana, Foo Fighters etc. Between that and R6 I'm pretty happy.

Also, does *anybody* rate Chris Moyles? I don't think I've ever heard a single person admit to liking him, but apparently he added 700,000 new listeners since he took over breakfast, so he must be appealing to some people. To my ears he just sounds like a chauvanistic, unpleasant, grossly over-inflated ego without the charm or warmth to carry either of those things off. What am I missing?

yes i like him, he's not so fucking "in your face yoof" bullshit like the others. Actually i think it's because i'm partial to car park catchphrase....... i'll get me coat.

Mind you that's only because it reminds me of M&L's fooked up competitions..... Viaduct:the revenge.... "sniff"

damn this is depressing.

It's what he's been moved back for that's causing my problem. But like I said in the title, they havn't cancelled him...yet :)

PJ last night was quite good, she was a tad wonky on her first track, but still quite fantastic. Her records exposed her influences a bit too much, if you ask me.

thye wouldn't dare cancel Peel. riots in the streets etc. etc. well, maybe not riots - strongly worded letters in the Guardian perhaps...

yeah, Polly was excellent. she seems to have come full circle, back to playing proper, grimy Blues numbers. it's always better when she plays her guitar, rather than being a frontman, singing.

I managed to miss seeing her with the 'full band' crap [thankfully?], but she still played some songs from 'Stories...' faultlessly.

And I was half asleep when I heard about the shows starting at 9pm earlier, and leapt onto the computer to check if Peel was still alive. I would still be in bed if they hadn't :)
