GBA SP

After missing out of the great Index sale, I sought a Gameboy Advance SP - especially after dropping my regular GBA down the bog, and hence it now doesn't work ;)

So, I got myself a Gameboy Advance SP (arctic blue) boxed as new, to be honest doesn't even appear used. Came with two games: Iridion 2 and Sonic Pinball.

I've also been plugging away at Advance Wars 2 and, with no GBA to play it on, this also urged me towards buying an SP. I'm finding this little title highly addictive, great portable game. Not had much chance to play Iridion 2 but it seems okay. Not played Sonic Pinball yet.

Also, my usual spending-spree style purchasing has meant i am now the proud owner of... Wario Ware, Golden Sun, Mario & Luigi, Ecks Vs Sever, Pokemon Ruby, Spyro Orange, Crash Bandicoot Purple, Sonic Advance 3, Final Fantasy Tactics and probably a few others i forget! Not sure how many I'll actually keep though

Anybody recommend anything else I really should check out? Been looking at Sega Arcade Collection which looks ace - does anybody know if there's any other versions of this due out?

Well, I'll continue on this thread anyways...

I love the SP. I think it's a great machine - incredibly cute, nicely made (although, it'd be even better if it had a proper metal casing on it).

There are two areas of the GBA market which grate (especially over here).

The prices of GBA games is criminal. I'd never buy a full price UK version of the game, as even if it's a quality release, there's nothing anybody can say that can sway me against the fact that £25-£30 is hideously overpriced.

Also, print runs on the games are awful too. Considering that GAME and GAMESTATION are the two big hitters on the high street, the space they give for the GBA and the actual amount of good games they have in stock is atrocious. Why can I never find Wario Ware? Where's Zelda?

Instead we get hundreds of copies of absolute shite.

Someone in the buying dept.s at these stores should seriously be given the boot.

Either way, it's one of the few things Nintendo have got right - the non-regionalisation (is that a word?) of the machine is a huge boost. It's a pity I can't support the UK market, but when I can get new games for half the price of UK ones, it speaks volumes.

And yet, I love the SP. It's great.

Got a GBA for my wife recently, so I wanted to get her a game to go with it, I was amazed at just how shit the selection was, especially in Gamestation in the Manchester Arndale. They had absolutely nothing, it really suprised me especially as the GBA is such a big seller.

No shortage of all the different coloured machines though.

Seriously, just how many colours can Nintendo milk out of it?

Are there some sad bastards who do buy them all?

There's all this moaning by the press that whilst the SP hardware still sells phenomenally, the games aren't doing the business...

Oooh. Here's an idea Nintendo: Produce more quantities of your good games.

Not loads of different varieties of Yu-Gi-Oh! (whatever the fuck that is...)

Do you know what I love bout my SP?

I have lost my glasses, and have to take my contact lenses out at night etc...but I can see the SP without my glasses! Woo! Normally I couldn't even see the screen I'm looking at, but the SP is fine!

I also love my SP. I bought it on a whim after selling my original GBA to my girlfriend. I didn't really play the original that much, but I play the SP all the time. Its the size of the machine and the styling, I love it. Its just so useful. It really does fit in your pocket.

I import all my games now as well, £30 for Mario Advance 2? F**k off, I'll buy it from Canada for £18 thanks.

SP is a great machine. The perfect size and with techinical limitations, many of the best games need to focus on playability rather than graphics.

BTW, the GBA version of Max Payne is really good... the bullet time shooter works well in the isometric view.

I had the original GBA but didn't really use it that much because of the crazy angles you would have to hold the machine at, just to see the screen! I bought an SP & now I play those games quite a lot. It's a massive, MASSIVE improvement over the original. All the games look so much better! But, yes, shame about the limited supply of decent games in most shops!

You do realise Nintendo don't develop them? Eejit.

Expensive jatpool? I would hardly say £15 - £20 is anything near that. Considering I've gotten 50+ hours out of FF:Tactics, probably more than that out of Wario Ware.

Wario Ware being a brilliant, big game, and it's a new idea and a new game too. Why does it matter if it's on the GBA or a console? Just because the cartridge and console are smaller make it less worth the money?

OT: Has anyone seen the TV ads for the 'Tribal' (whatever the fuck that means,) SP? *shudder*

That 'tribal' SP is the WORST console I have ever seen. It's a concept that is misguided on so many levels I'm not even going to start. Absolutely awful.

I would love to get a pure white SP, that would be very cool indeed.

That'll be the Final Fantasy LE Japanese Pack. :D
