The xbox is gona sink faster than the Mega CD

I really think I have missed something with the Xbox. I have had one since near the console's UK launch and to be honest I haven't used it a whole lot apart from with Halo and PGR2. Splinter Cell was alright like, not amazing so i'm not really interested in getting Pandora Tomorrow. I am not interested in Star Wars in the slightest and so don't want KOTOR. Am I missing anything else?!

I don't have Live or a chipped Xbox, are these the reasons I am missing the point? Or does the Xbox have anymore decent single player games which you don't need Live to enjoy?

One major annoyance (yes, another) for me is when people complain they have nothing to play on their Xbox, and that they can't be bothered with it. Well that's what you fucking get if you don't buy any games for it!

You don't need to be interested in Star Wars to like KOTOR, it has no real relevance to the films really, just the fact it's based before them.

If you can, get Xbox Live, you'll love PGR2 all over again, as well as a few other good games.

Ninja Gaiden is worth checking out, can be bought for around £20. Panzer Dragoon Orta is only around a tenner. Both good single player games. Same with Beyond Good and Evil, and Metal Arms (about a tenner each).

So splash out.

Ever since the moment I first heard that Microsoft were going to produce their own console, I made a point NOT to buy it, just cos its Microsoft! And so far I have resisted.

However... Halo 2, Half Life, Outrun 2, Juiced, all on the horizon... I'm starting to realise my foolishness. I could be persauded to buy an Xbox sometime in the next year, although I still stand by original opinion however that it is a big and ugly console!

0 Japanese games? You're a hypocrit, frankly. You have Panzer Dragoon Orta!

DoA3, Ninja Gaiden, Otogi, Otogi 2, all Japanese games worth having.

I got my Xbox launch day, with Halo, PGR and THPS3. Got Rallisport instead of THPS3, as the latter was crap.

Haven't regretted it since.

I care not for emulation, although my Xbox is chipped and upgrading the hard drive soon, it's just a nice addition, but the games and the online service have kept it in for me.

I get pissed off with the abundance of jealous people saying "Halo is TEh onLy GOOD GAME!11l", because they're not looking at any others, just on the fact no Xbox game has gotten that high a score across the board since. Yet there are tonnes of other fantastic ones, such as PGR2, Rainbow Six3, KOTOR and many others I can't be bothered to list yet again.

Always in my mind I knew the Xbox wasn't going to fail, but didn't really think it would have that much success. It was my successor to the Dreamcast, but with lots of financial backing.

You can list the good Japanese games for Xbox on one hand (maybe two!), PS2 and GameCube however......

But good ones though?

And this is a western console we're talking about, so this is partially unfair.

Good Japanese games then?

1. Ninja Gaiden.

2. Otogi.

3. Otogi 2.

4. DoA.

5. DoA Xtreme Beach Volleyball.

6. House of the Dead III.

7. Panzer Dragoon Orta.

8. OutRun 2.

9. Soul Calibur II.

10. Jet Set Radio Future.

11. GUNVALKYRIE.

12. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance.

That's three hands now.

Anyways, these 'western' games have been outperforming Japanese ones for quite a while, and shown they can be so much better. Does the game's origin make it somehow better or something?

I noticed a lot of you mention japanese games? I bet theres many people here who believe a game is made in japan, making it great, when it actually isnt, case in point, out run 2, the port is being handeled in england i believe, just because a game is made in japan doesnt make it the be all and end all of gaming. Some of the best games are made in the west.

These aren't released yet, are they?

It's out in the arcade, and Strider said OutRun2 is almost EXACTLY the same as the arcade version, and coming along nicely.

Otogi2 has been out in Japan for a while.

If you want more: Steel Battalion (and LoC), Shenmue II...I could keep going. :D

Anyway, yeah, I totally agree with you Sack, just read the last line of that post I did before this one.

The point I am trying to make is that you actually need to think about what Japanese games are actually any good on the Xbox system. I would say of the titles mentioned very few are japanese titles that I would consider worth owning.

The PS2 and GameCube have a far wider selection of Japanese games and in my view are better than those available on the Xbox.

I could list lots of Japanese PS2 and GC games I would consider worth owning, but the Xbox list shown is simply every Japanese Xbox game.*

*Not actually true - but in all seriousness how many are there? 30?!

However there's still more than enough time for it to get fucked up before release. And anyway; who's Strider?

If I wanted to judge a console on potential releases I'd pick the xbox because apparently Sudeki and Fable are going to be all that and a bag of chips.

Well said Sack. Japan isnt the holy land you know, where every game made is a classic.

Surely most people buy consoles with future releases in mind?

Read my post again if you like.... Maybe you will spot your error! I said JAPAN ONLY games, meaning exclusives. There is very little reason to own an xbox if that is the sort of games you are into.

DOA3, Otogi, worth owning....

>_<

Exclusives aside, I tend to prefer Japanese games anyway. And the Xbox has hardly any of those, whereas the GC, and (especially) the PS2 have loads. This is mainly to do with the fact that the xbox was DOA in Japan (no cunning wordplay intended) and that Segas xbox output has been poor. I think the list of games you mention shows how poor the software support is in that region (Shenmue 2? Welcome to three years ago).

One more thing, its 'HYPOCRITE', and im not one

Shut up.

I said first party for a reason. Partly because it tends to suggest the manufacturer has a clue about meeting the needs of its machines owners (see also lack of keyboard/mouse despite the stacks of FPS) and secondly because ASCII & HORI shit always breaks on me...

*kicks stupid £40 dreamcast ASCII FT pad across room*

That's one fucking title you ignorant moron.

ONE "potential" release. And Sumo won't be allowed to fuck it up, and how could they so close to release? It's not going to happen. Why be so fucking negative about something? It's people like you I absolutely despise. Always ready to put something down because it COULD go wrong, like if everyone in the world died.

Seriously, piss off. This is a thread to look back on how well the Xbox has done, and what's yet to come, not to knock it because something MIGHT happen.

dam_asks, sure, there aren't many Jap titles, but who cares? As long as the games are good, then brilliant!

Thing is, have you played most of those? I'd regard most of those as very good titles myself. And again, this isn't the PS2 or GCN, which are owned by Japanese companies, so obviously will have more Japanese games.

I don't understand the Japanese Vs Western development arguments that creep up in here from time to time, as I can't see how the region affects the quality of the title.

I can see why people prefer a certain console if it has more of a certian genre the enjoy, or are backed by a developer they tend to like the games from but the lack of Japanese/Western debate seems like a shallow argument to me.

With that in mind, where's my decent first party GC stick?

Hawkeye- its simple. I look at my collection of games, and the vast majority of those and the ones I have enjoyed the most come from Japan. Western produced console gaming has improved hugely in the last couple of years, but I still find that the kind of games I tend to enjoy the most come from Japan.

Sorry, what do you mean Japan only? The fact a game has only been release in Japan? If so, then that's Nintendo's and Sony's fault for not releasing games over here, and shows how much better Microsoft are to us.

DoA3 is great, Otogi is lush...

Why do you prefer Japanese games? And why does it matter if they're from that particular country, surely if it's a good game then you'll enjoy it?

Sega's output on the Xbox has been the best out of the GBA, GCN and PS2.

JSRF, Otogi, Otogi 2, and a few others I'd say that are good games. Better than Billy Hatcher, Headhunter and whatever else they've released on other consoles. Well, aside from Super Monkey Ball of course. :D

Yes, it shows how poor the support is, but this is a western console, I don't need to explain that any more. :(

Western output on the Xbox has been pretty good. Not denying it.

Just for me - a person who mainly plays Japanese games (I don't give a fuck if they are Japanese exculsive or not - more people who play them the better!) I find the lack of Japanese stuff a bit of a let down. Not saying they make the best games, just in my opinion the console is the worse for not having many Jpn games.

Jesus.

I just asked you not to count your chicken's before they hatched and you go off on one? Why so sensitive? And excuse me for not knowing the forum handle of a games magazine Editor. Heck now that you mention, it's that Strider I'll bow to his impartial wisdom. Outrun 2's obviously a dead cert just like Sega Rally 2 was on the DC

And for the record for the majority of my Xbox collection consists mainly of those Japanese Xbox titles, personal preference I'm afraid, and to be honest half of them are shite.

GUNVALKYRIE? Panzer Dragoon Orta? You're holding these up as great games?

Keep your anger in check and your brain in gear, mate.

And D-Side, I don't own a cube. I do own an xbox.

Yes I mean Japan exclusive. This is a selling point for me as if I need to get a console to play a game, I will buy it. I couldnt care less where in the world a game is released or where it comes from, I just tend to prefer Japanese games. I suspect im not alone!

I thought this thread was about evaluating how well the Xbox has done. In my mind, its been a huge dissapointment (emulation aside :().

I think we should just agree to disagree. You like it, I dont

But JSRF is crap :P
