When a multiplatfrom game comes out..

(Burnout being a key example, hence the uproar about a lack of GC BO3)

I think the 'uproar' is more likely caused by the distinct lack of any other decent, car-related racing franchises on GC.

Personally, it's a combination of timing and price. For instance, I have the GC version of Rocky. Far cheaper than the 'rare' Xbox version and pretty much identical in every respect.

I always get the XBox version, because I can use the hard drive - no faffing with memory cards.

Several people have said the same, so far.

This is another point worth noting when considering the Xbox 2's lack of a hard drive - how many sales will it cost Xbox where multi-format titles are concerned? With no hard drive, I'd be more swayed to the console whose controller seemed best for that game. Especially as developers hardly ever bother souping up their games to take advantage of the Xbox's extra oomph.

The next time an Xbox 2/hard drive thread comes up (tomorrow, probably), I'll remember to mention this "multi-platform title" issue. Unless I forget.

There will be storage included with it. Apparently a 1Gb memory card (flash) type thing. We won't be needing to go out and buy extra rubbish, let's say.

For me, exclusives on the Cube, and everything else on the Xbox (don't have a PS2).

Possibly, but I know I was more upset at the thought of having to play Burnout 3 with the Xbox controller, my main gripe being that the triggers just simply are not as good as the GameCube's.

And the same with Hitman Contracts. I haven't bought it yet, as I'm still waiting (false hope perhaps) to see if it'll get ported over onto the GC, again because I feel the triggers on the GC pad are far, far more suited to Hitman than the consoles Hitman was actually released on.

All other things being equal, definately the XBox version due to:

- DD 5.1

- 480p on nearly every game (plus no faffing about holding down the B button like on the GC)

- No memory card needed

Above and beyond that, I go for the best version. Usually it is still the XBox, but sometimes it is difficult. Take Burnout 2 for example (forget the PS2 version).

XBox:

5.1 sound

Custom soundtracks

BO1 soundtrack included (which I prefer)

60 fps on two player mode

Live scoreboards

Better car skins

No slowdown on crash mode replays

GC:

Excellent Logitech wheel support

I went for the XBox version in the end, but it was tougher than you might think.

I get the PS2 versions, because that is the only console I own.

PS2 also has Prog Scan support straight out of the box, something missing on the standard GC and Xbox for PAL regions.

Titles like Burnout 2, POP, Soul Calibur2, SSX3, LOTR:ROTK, James Bond EON, BG&E, Baldur's Gate 2, Timesplitters 2, etc. Are virtually identical on all 3 consoles.

I use X-port to back-up my saves to my computer harddisc.

There is now a piece of software that rips PS2 games onto the internal harddrive and allows you to play them from there to shorten load times and save digging out the disc.

PS2 also has Network Play on must of the multiformat titles. But this is cheaper than on the Xbox because it doesn't require another expensive subscription.

The Dual Shock is a better controller.

The games are cheaper, usually available earlier, you get a better price on trade-in.

And finally the most important reason: None of my friends have either an Xbox or a GC.

Xbox version generally, thanks to the hard drive, graphics, yadda yadda. This is assuming they are simultaneous releases: PoP I got for the PS2 as I was damned if I was waiting all that time for the Xbox conversion. I could have been dead by then, right?

I love the controller S. The GC pad is a close second, missing out due to its lack of buttons, poor Dpad and horrible Z button. The PS2 pad is tolerable, but with nasty analogue sticks and a less solid "feel" than the other two.

When they are cheaper on PS2 I get 'stuck'. I won't buy exactly the same game at a more expensive price on a different platform on principle, but I won't buy it at the cheaper price when its available on my preferred console.

I'm exactly the same, although I haven't got an Xbox, and it's the graphics that draw me to the GC version*. Why oh why oh why won't old games just get cheaper for the Gamecube! :P

*Maybe this makes me not exactly the same...

But sadly very few games support prog scan on the PS2 in any region :P.

Not quite. Burnout 2 has umpteen improvements on the GC and XBox versions. Heihachi is arguably the worst of the extra characters in SC2 and the XBox version supports 720p which is lush. The EA games are pretty much the same though, except for the prog scan on the GC and XBox (on import anyway).
