My mate's mate is a guitarist in a Band called Grand National and last night we went to see them in support at Camden Dingwalls.

They were OK, not really my thing though. We stayed for the main act even though we didn't know who they were.

It turned out to be the new band featuring Sia, the girl from Zero 7.

Anyway, they were fucking ace, really mellow and chilled, and she really has got a stunning voice. Shame she ruined it buy babbling on in her Aussie whine between songs.

Incidentally my mate, who's a great session guitarist himself, pointed out that Sia's guitarist is one of the best session players in the World.

Apparently he does studio over-dubs for the Gypsy Kings.

Sia's got an album out you know. It's not bad but very much Zero 7 lite in terms of quality (and Zero 7's last album was Zero 7 lite in itself)

Have a look here

itunes have it

£7.99

Apple will be the ruin of me

So, via my laptop, from the comfort of my Sofa, I have obtained the information that Sia have an album, have wirelessly downloaded said album and am now listening to it wirelessly through my amp and speakers.

Without moving an inch.

Lets just think about that for a second.

You could have done that about 5 years ago.

Minus the Sia album, of course.

Well I had wireless in 1999 but no broadband - it would have take a hell of a lot longer to download the album then. I may as well have gone down the road and bought the album and stopped off for a sandwich on the way back.

Don't spoil skeptic's techno-wonder. Hoorah for technology.

I thought that the main reason for this goodness was iTunes. Which, via Napster, you could have done. But not fast or wirelessly.

Yes, hooray for science, woo!

"Lite" implies that Sia's album is similar to Zzzzzero 7's latest, but not as good. I beg to differ. I wish she'd stop working with the boring twats.

Sia's FIRST album (Healing is Difficult) is fantastic. Very personal. Jazzy vibe with urban sensibilities. Check out Blow It All Away, Drink To Get Drunk (esp Different Gear remix) and Taken For Granted (a Top 10 hit many years ago).

I don't like the second album (Colour the Small One) as much - it's too "easy listening", too subtle, and doesn't use the range of her voice - but Breathe Me and Don't Bring Me Down are amazing.

And, yes, she's brilliant live.

  • 1 year later...

Yeah, she's still great.

I like CTSO more now, but she left some of the best tracks from the sessions on the cutting room floor.

Hunt down Broken Biscuit (a B-side). Oh, and You Have Been Loved, which is simply gorgeous.

Think she's touring the US at the mo. Will hopefully be doing some dates in the UK again next year.
