Prodigy

I think the three opening tracks are great. I'm just glad the album finally got a release.

I think the new style is similar to the debut album, I think AONO is a good album, I bet I am the only one who does, when you listen to the last single they released (Baby's Got a Temper) compared to Girls (which I really like) you can really see the difference, although I think the ending to Girls is rather strange and feels somewhat bolted on.

Even though I have the album I am still buying it from Amazon, a band such as Prodigy definitely deserve my support. Track 10 is due to appear in an advert for BMW (You're under my Wheels) and I'm sure Noel and Liam Gallacher were rumoured to have worked on songs for AONO, can anyone confirm this as I have yet to listen to the album fully.

The Prodigy are back and I for one am truly grateful!.

it's a very harsh album, probably best listened to whilst under the influence of similarly harsh drugs. i first listened to it yesterday whilst doing some intensive off road cycling, and i was fighting with the music. stuck it on later back at home with a mate and he thought it was ok, it defintely sounds better blasted out loud rather than on headphones, and the 50's rockabilly pan your head in beats on 'Hotride' are certainly infectious but, nah. the whole thing sounds like someone battling with technology rather then in control of it.

Shoot Down. Liam on Vocals Noel on Bass guitar.

Under My Wheels is a remix of Roll and Rock/Brainstorm , an old Live tune they used to do, which, anoyingly was better in it original form "A roll and Rock, Rock and Roll, Kicking off in a Brainstorm"

It used to ave a really wicked drum beat, that Liam used to do live on this huge drum kit, whilst Leeroy would take comand of the keyboards.

I must admit that the album does grow on you. There are some tracks where you can instantly recognise parts that have been used in other Prodigy songs. You could say that the songs are using the left-over samples from previous albums, and there are moments when you could overlay songs like Firestarter and Breathe to that of the new material and it would still sound fine.

I do like the album, I like all the albums from The Prodigy, I heard that a new Dirtchambers album would be released once AONO was finished so here is hoping, I am also wondering what happened to Flint, anyone care to let me know?.

I don't know what my favourite Prodigy album would be if I had to choose so I will just stay neutral on that front although I guess MFTJG has a special place as that was the first Prodigy album I ever heard, and I really like Poison as well!.

As I said, I'm glad the Prodigy are back once again.

Well, I liked half of the tracks on Experience, about nine-tenths of Jilted, and everything on Fat of the Land...so I might wait until I can get the album on the cheap...

:) There wasn't a bad track on Experience!

In fact, there's only one duff track between Experience and Expanded, and that's not even a proper Prodigy tune (Weather Experience, Top Buzz Remix).

You're right there.

Experience was amazing, especially at the time it came out.

'We Are The Ruffest' is one of my favourite Prodigy tracks (you just reminded me of that one, decider, as it's on the 'Wind It Up' single, along with that Top Buzz abortion).

The thing is, I can imagine sever years and getting AONO would be somehwat disappointing, but I only got into The Prodigy a few years back so the wait has been nothing really, just to reiterate, I like the album.

I think they have been left behind(along with the chemical brothers) for big beat electonica(whatever the name is these days) with the likes of freeland etc making thier stuff sound extremely dated.

I always remember them as cheesy dance act from early 90 with howlett doing the music and the rest jumping around the stage in white gloves(eclipse coventry as charlie was becoming a hit)

There stuff from the early to mid 90s was decent enough but as now they were alway bettered by lesser known acts who didnt have the manic stage show.

Credit for throwing a sample in to girls (I think) from the original uk electronic act Broken glass.

Yeah - this album's crap.

I loved the Prodigy. Seen them live three times.

Loved Experience. Loved Music For... Thought 'Fat of the Land' was okay(ish) in places (well, Diesel Power and Funky Shit being standouts for me), but felt at the time that what Liam Howlett thought was good music and what I thought was good music was becoming increasingly different.

This confirms it for me.

Now, instead of me saying, "Yeah, I like The Prodigy." I can finally say, "I used to like them, but now they're shit."

My love for The Prodigy, R.I.P (1991-2004) :)

About 50 seconds into Girls I'm reminded of the cartoon "Ghostbusters". Whether or not that means anything I don't know. Oh, and I asked my bro (who kindly got the album) what his favourite track was so far and he relied with "You Will Be Under My Wheels is good." Meanwhile, I'm really liking Memphis Bells and it's nice little rhythm accompanied with that bass and those weird bell sounds.

Make of that what you will.

(DISCLAIMER: qazimod's taste in tunes does not necessarily coincide with yours.)

I just got round to hearing the album and have to testify that I really love Girls too. I think the vocals are maybe Hafdis Huld, who did some great vocal stuff on FC Kahuna's Machine Say Yes (You not heard this, then try and hear it, it's ace). It definitely sounds like her, though I don't have any inlay notes :P But Girls. yeah. Love the way it kicks in and from there on, I'm hooked!

I like the album a good deal - I think it's definitely back-to-basics as it reminds me a lot of the Experience album of long ago (Especially Memphis Bells). There's a mix of old skool and new there which is good to hear. It's been waking me up during difficult early rises for work, and for that I'm very happy.

edit - Cooo. So many people on this album. Liam and Noel on the last track? Juliette Lewis? No Hafdis Huld? :(http://www.nekozine.co.uk/prodigy/info/aonoinQmag04.html

I could reminisce about clubs/events from the late 80's early/mid 90's all day but obviously this thread isnt the place.

But will say one thing about The Eclipse if you where there for the 1st time and feeling good :( then all of a sudden the laser eagle started flying over your head(along with other laser animated animals)it must/will have been one of the best nights of your life.

T'was a stunning venue for a year or so

definately grown on me especially "youll be under my wheels" which is featurd on that bmw...car ad

Yup, Just like Jilted for me, Hated Jilted at first but then loved it....

That BMW advert is mental!

Incidently, the Thriller "sample" on "The Way it is", isn't a sample at all, but a re-creation, They couldn't get clearance to use it, so Liam re-did it himself and it took longer to do that , than to write the tarck itself!

I'm enjoying this album myself. Definately a grower. By no means is it The Progigy's greatest album, but it's far from being their worst either. When you think about it, Experience and MFTJG are difficult albums for anyone to match. But it's miles better than TFOTL.

I'm so glad that they dropped Keith Flint off the vocals. It was a good experiement for a couple of songs, but for most of TFOTL it just sounded like a Johnny Rotten impression. Creating great music from layers of beats and samples was what The Prodigy were always about for me. Not singing. So all in all I'm liking AONO and I've pre-ordered it from Amazon.

When I first heard the song with the Love Buzz sample I thought, 'yeah, this is good; what are they all moaning about?' Then I got bored of it before it ended. And then I discovered the song with the Thriller sample that managed to be quite the most rubbish thing ever. Quite an achievement. And then I moved onto the one with Noel and Liam which would be impressive if it was the new Oasis single, but really only ranks alongside that one with wotsisface from Kula Shaker in the Prodigy canon. And then there's Spitfire and Girls, which are both quite catchy to my ears. But, as far as I can tell, the rest is a bland waste of time.

I used to remember Everybody in the Place being played at school. Now that's what I call Prodigy. Even the fat nerds dug that one

And who was the band that did A Trip to Trumpton? Another school classic. I haven't heard that since it came out. I bet it's a whole lot shitter than I remember.

No school playground is going to be affected by this new Prodigy album.
