BIGLIME'S ACTION 50

1. Die Hard

2. Aliens

3. Big Trouble In Little China

4. The Hidden

5. Con Air

6. Goldeneye

7. Out For Justice

8. Hard Boiled: The thinking man's action star, Chow Yun-Fat, and John Woo when John Woo could do no wrong. From start to finish, Hard-Boiled is an action masterpiece. The choreography is beautiful, the gunplay is perfect, and the final 20 minutes within a hospital warzone never leave your movie memory.

9. Mad Max 2: As good as the first movie was, this improves on it in every way. Mel Gibson is every inch the movie star, completely convincing, but even he cannot outshine the glorious direction.

7. Out For Justice: Now it gets interesting. In many ways, Out For Justice is a terrible movie. But get the uncut version, and a curry, and you're in for the ride of your life. Seagal is at his brilliant best, and he's matched all the way by William Forsythe's seriously fucked-up villain. Worth watching for the pool hall scene alone.

What's pretty funny abouyt Seagal's fights is that they don't follow the Hollywood action formula of good guy getting beaten up pretty badly before winning it in the end. Seagal just wastes anyone with his aikido techniques. The stuff he does to Forsythe's very nasty character is just brutal. And hilarious.

Under Siege 2.

I haven't laughed so hard at an ending in my entire life.

It's an unarguable classic!

I love the "zoom to the other end of the train" bit where it's pretty obvious they've just used a camera closer to the end of the train and overlaid it with some sights.

I *heart* it - you know it will never make Mr Limes list though.

The middle pic of the last row is my favourite bit is possibly my favourite animated action scene ever. I regulary just play that 10 minute part.

As soon as "What Planet Is This?" kicks in.....

I saw that in the cinema whilst I was in Japan, took the wife along too. It was probably the coolest film I ever saw during my stay there. During one section (the "What Planet Is This??" dogfight) I was rocking backwards and forwards whilst giggling with joy. Nabeshin is one fucking shithot director (and Samurai Champloo kicks ARSE).

I've got to stick another vote in for Ronin. It's just amazing- there are too many good bits to list. But I'll do so anyway.

-That bit where a car gets get by a rocket and just flips over while still going about seventy.

-"What colour's the boathouse at Heer-ford?"

-That bit where De Niro jacks the car round in a 270 degree turn, rather than just go round a corner like a normal person.

-"The taym isn't roddy!"

-The whole 'getting the case' section. Beautifully crafted action cinema.

-"Almost a bit of raspberry jam back there!"

-That bit where De Niro jumps down the steps of the amphitheatre in Aix to catch Gregor in a brutally painful-looking Jackass-style buckle.

-"You're great in the locker room, pal, and your reflexes may die hard, but you're weak when you put your spikes on".

-That bit where De Niro pretends to take photos of his wife, while setting up a clever distraction so he can test the bad guy's techniques.

-"If you don't mind, I'm gonna pass out."

-That bit where Sean Bean's firing an MP5 at the French gun dealers, shouting "Fuckin' 'ave some!"

-"You think I'm reluctant because I'm happy?"

-The Jean Reno says "Ah. Vienna."

It's great, basically. The only problem is the climax is a bit weak, espeiclaly after all the carnage that precedes it. I don't want to see ice-skating, I want to see guns and cars.

And Ron Jeremy was in it, but had his scenes deleted. Man, there's a DVD extra I'd watch.

10. Death Race 2000: There's no other movie quite like this. It's great fun, and a young Stallone going up against a brilliant David Carradine, well....it makes it essential viewing. Satire, black comedy and cars doing some killing. What more do you need?

I dont know if any of these have been suggested as I havent read the entire thread, but:

The Rock - Bay's best film by far.

Equilibrium - the action's over to quickly, but it kicks serious arse while it lasts.

Fulltime Killer - HK remake of assassins. But good.

5th Element - Silly plot, but great action.

The Matrix - shame about the shit sequels

I've said it before and I'll say it again: safe the sci-fi for a sci-fi fifty.

No Matrix, no Robocop, no Starship Troopers and no Terminator. Though they're all great and have stunning action scenes.

But... Aliens is in this fifty. How can Aliens be allowed and Starship Troopers not?
