Just finished recording the mini-disc for Futureshock, it's runs in at 74.32 with 17 tracks. And it's lush ;)

This is a one-off, as mini-discs ain't cheap.

Thats alright - I havn't included you.

Well, like at the moment the CD I'm compiling is going to be full of funky floor fillers. Old soul, some hip hop, bits of rock with wah guitar in.

The last one (which never made it past a playlist) was music to snowboard to. It had dramatic music that would work well on a mountian summit; fast, heart-pumping music like Chemical Bros for fast runs and some turntablism and skate-punkiness for hitting the snow parks. I used some of the tracks on a video I made of footage some time later though.

I've done a few others. The red pill/blue pill combo was quite interesting in a slightly scarey self-reflective way. I made one CD with ludicrously up-beat music on it, interspersed with soundbites from cartoons and another one with incredibly soulfull and depressing music (Smiths etc) with soundbites like "Congratulations - you've just hit rock bottom..." on it.

That was kind of how I felt at the time.

The best ones are where it almost tells a story. You start off with a really accessible track that everyone will like and track by track you move across various genres and end up somewhere completely different. Best one I did started off with a simpsons quote, went through Bill Bailey, Edwin Star, Dream Warriors, Gang Starr, James Brown, Blackalicious some slightly obscure soul, Beastie Boys and Fur-Q (remember him? :P ). The point was it was formy brother who wasn't into Hip-Hop very much and he loved it - I tricked him with the Bill Bailey :(

Nothing with beat my compilation I've done for Futureshock, NOTHING! I'll post the tracklisting once he's taken delivery of said compilation.

Well, mine's done. It feels a little... disjointed. I'm not entirely happy with it but I was working with limited means due to my MP3 collection being temporarily unavailable. I've managed to cobble together a reasonable collection of tunes though.

I was a bit worried my taste might not suit the intended recipient but a quick search through mw_jimmy's posts seems to suggest otherwise. I haven't gone down the mega obscure route though, just tunes I like.

Christ only knows what I'll get given. 2 hours of thrash metal?

It's pretty different to what I usually listen to but there's some good tunes none the less. I've been after that Private Eye track for a little while after half hearing it on MTV once and the Futureheads remix is fantastic. The Dead 60s are a new name to me but sound like the Specials which can't be bad. I'll give it a more thorough listen tonight. Good work!

Mine was sent today too, I had to faff about getting the MP3s onto the same HD as the burner, but I got there in the end.

Without knowing the tastes of the person I was sending to, I made it pretty well balanced. The biggest problem was keeping it to fit the CD, rather than choosing what tracks to put on.

I also threw in some quirky songs to guarantee a smile on the listeners face.

Jrisgod's CD seemed good though.

12 tracks? Mines well over 20, but its good. Im pretty chuffed with it - its nicely varied and theres gonna be at plenty on it that they've never heard (I hope) :)

The one I sent off was about 20 tracks but was a bit of a mess. The next one I do might be about 7 tracks, all my favourite tracks at the moment are over 10 minutes long.

It was originally longer, with a lot more punk stuff between tracks 9 and 11, but I listened to it and decided to cut 5 tracks because it just sounded out of place - you couldn't listen to the whole CD in one go (I was trying to cover too many bases, really).

It's not a short CD, though - it's nearly an hour, even with only 12 tracks.

Also, sorry for being anonymous... I thought we weren't meant to reveal who we were until you posted who everyone had sent to, or something. I probably just got confused.

Surely the point of these CD's is to given the recipient something new, new sounds, new bands/artists/DJ's. I would never search to see what the recipient's musical tastes are, obviously from reading posts I'd have some idea of what they like/dislike.

When I make my compilations, I try to take the listener on a music journey. I might start off with a rave track, but by the middle it's flowed into some Indie, onto some Hip-Hop, Ambient and Electronica. I do prefer to do compilations on mini-disc, as it gives you greater control over the music. You can edit tracks to flow from one to the next, without a few seconds of silence between tracks. Plus I can record tracks from vinyl, which is a must for me, as I have a large vinyl collection.

So if any one wants a compilation off me, as part of this CD Exchange Club. Then when the next exchange takes place, send me a mini-disc and I can then take part in this club :)
