Cinema, DVD, video, TV, Yaaaar!, no matter what the format, what was the last film you watched, and what was it like?

Mine was Buffalo Soldiers watched on DVD last night.

Good, solid, enjoyable film. Blackly funny but with enough pathos to keep a serious edge. Not as good as the reviews made out (but that's over-expectation for you) but a good four-out-of-five from me.

And the stoned tank crew sequence was excellent.

Broken Arrow, on Dutch telly last night. Had nothing better to do. It's pish compared to Woo's HK films. But when compared with most Hollywood action flicks it's certainly not that bad as it does have it's moments. And the big villain exit is excellent.

2 on thursday night

Antitrust - enjoyable (if predictable) computer caper with a load of people you have never heard of and Tim Robbins- on 5

Gangs of New York - excellent, one of DiCaprios best perfomances (not that there are that many good ones). I'm not sure about Day Lewis though - did he just watch a few DeNiro films and copy him? Was any of it based in fact or was the whole thing made up? - DVD

Are you mad? I know most of the living world hate Leo, but I dont think I've ever seen him in a film where he was anything less than at least good. The Beach, Romeo and Juliet, and of course What's Eating Gilbert Grape? where he was fucking excellent. And Day Lewis was brilliant as Bill.

And back to the topic, I watched the Butterfly Effect. I loved it, but it was the most depressing film I'd seen in a loooong time.

Most people just hate him because of Titanic, which is pathetic.

He's still on of the best young(ish) US actors around.

Titanic is good.

Anyway the last film i watched was The Girl next door. It was quite good actually. I thought it was just gonna be another teen american pie rip off, but it was so much more than that.

Whats "You got served" like? I was watching South Parks version of it the other night, it was quite funny.

well it's just like the South Park episode and has almost every stereotypical black character you can think of. The disapproving grandma who says "mmm-hmm", this really fat gangster boss.

It reinforces the perception that alot of America's teenagers from all different racial and social backgrounds are into really shitty music and think they are from the 'ghetto' with the vocabulary to match.

It's got this like Byker Grove-style hangout where the crew practices, with graffiti all over the walls!!

It's also quite homoerotic, with lots of hunky male dancers practicing moves in the rain and playing basketball with no tops on!!

According to my friend it has the entire cast of Sister Sister in it.

In short, see it now!!!

Saw Freddy VS Jason last night . I had no expectations so it was quite good in a mindless entertainment kind of way. The commentary (Robert Englunds mostly) on the dvd was great, far more entertaining than the movie itself.

Cidade de Deus (City of God). Watched it on dvd yesterday. Utterly fantastic. I can see why it's compared to Goodfellas. Both film are based on a true story and both films share a director who uses every visual trick in the book to tell the story. It's colourful, kinetic, dramatic and unforgettable.
