Will XBOX 2 be THAT powerful compared to XBOX 1?

I remember reading some interview with some microsoft big-wig and he said that everygame will support HDTV. that being 720 p/i and 1080i.

And basically every xbox 1 game supports 480p i can see it hapening, and after seeing 720p games running on xbox i must say that this will be one of the biggest improvements next gen.

Afterall wants the point in graphics getting better if all you have is a rubbish 640x480 rez.

Was that not an April Fool?

Microsoft using Apple's technology? Whatever next.

That they are actually using IBM technology with tweaks asked for/designed by Microsoft engineers, a bit like the G5 is an IBM design with tweaks asked for/designed by Apple.

It would be nice to play a city-based game that actually consisted of more than a couple of pedestrians shuffling about aimlessly.

That'd be nice.

That could've been done years ago if folk had just had the right attitude. As it stands, having more realistic characters than your rivals is an easier sell than having a more convincing city than your rivals.

To be honest, I don't think the processing power would have half covered a decent population in a city-scape game.

Even now, the best example of this is possibly GTA - a game which is pushing the PS2 a fair whack - and even that has to choose between lots of cars when driving/few pedestrians, or a fair amount of people when on foot/the roads suddenly become a driving mecca...

There's obviously going to be comprimises, but I think this'll be a real test for the new machines.

You could pull off loads of vehicles and people if you had early-PSone graphics... that's what I'm getting at. The amount of visual oomph which is possible in a "busy" game will always be less than that in a "sparse" game if you've got the same tech limits on each.

Not played the Shenmue games then?

Or JSR/F?

Hmm. Love the Shenmue games dearly, but it'd be even better if the character's didn't vanish into thin air when you turn your head.

And anyway, even Shenmue II didn't have as much action as I'd expect from the next generation of machines - if they're going to make me buy them, of course.

As for JSRF - meh. I want more, and more.

I am just so demanding...

I think XBOX 2 will be a lot faster and have nicer and higher resolution graphics. Let hope it will be able to support 16:9 DD5.1 and 480, 1080P and no crap loading

So you hope it will not load a single game released for it then?

You are an odd one, my pumpkin!

The G5 macs use a Motorola's PowerPC 8500 chip (built under license by IBM)

No they don't, they use an IBM PowerPC 970, an entirely IBM designed chip derived from the POWER 4 (I work for IBM Systems and Technology Group so I should know ;) )

In other words the strength of 100 men?

I think Uncle's got this wrong.

Going by the size of the original Xbox, surely it'll take a 100 strong men to lift the thing.

Or perhaps just one really strong sailor.

With a peg leg.

Who likes playing Xbox games.

Yes.

You'd need 3 AV outs.

But aside from that, yeah, it would be neat.

I swear! Seriously!

Yeah, it was on Father Ted, but it didn't originate there. The original comment could be taken either way, I suppose. But it certainly pre-dates Father Ted by a long, long time.
