Transformers Live Action

I gotta bad feeling about this. It won't really be 'live action'.

It'll be real scenery with CG plastered on. Unless they built real robots ;)

:(

I really don't know what to think about this... good? Bad? God only knows.

I think if there's one film that CGI was invented for, it's a live-action Transformers movie.

I hate CGI in place of stunts or for rendering organic things, but when it comes to robots...
Megatron will NOT be a gun.

We MAY have Soundwave- but we'd keep him proportional and make him a cd player or something. Think REALITY. If Megatron is a tank, then when he transforms it is to scale.

We are staying focused on the original mythology.

We are working to get permissions for REAL vehicles so that Bumblebee turns into a VW for example. Bumblebee HAS to be a Bug but why can't Hot Shot be the coolest sports car we can find?"

Steven is COMPLETELY behind staying true to the mythology- no supersoakers.
Hot Shot? Either a slip of the tongue, just the name they're using given they can't use Hot Rod anymore or *shudder* they're gonna stick in some Armada characters in there for good measure.

All I'll say is it better have Jazz in it...

So he'd be about a foot tall in robot form. Awww, look at the ickle robot.

A pornographic version? Interesting...

Oh please. ;) If it were reality, would we have giant robots transforming into vehicles, guns and other electronic hardware?

Jeez, if they change anything from the original it'll be total cack. Megatron has to be a gun, damnit, and Soundwave has to be a tape deck. I get the feeling this will be total rubbish. :(

What can't they use the name Hot Rod anymore? (not a bearding attempt).

They definitely can't use the trademark for 'Hot Rod' any more: the recent Hasbro reissue of the first Hot Rod toy was called 'Rodimus Major'. (Hot Rod was/is called Hot Rodimus in Japan, so the Takara reissue kept the original name for the character in that country.)

Other 'lost' names include Bumblebee, Ravage and Bluestreak. There's too many 'lost' trademarks to count right now...

Presumably from a legal point of view, they could use all these names within the film, just not release toys using those names; that won't happen though, as Transformers is primarily a toy range, not a TV series, and Hasbro will want to get as much cash as possible from the film by having tie-in toys.

Writing off the film already because they've changed a few of the original characters' forms is daft and irrational. Personally, I honestly don't give a shit was they turn in to, as long as the characterisation of Megatron and Sounders is faithful. Transformers is all about change y'know.

Having Megatron as a gun in the first place was a laughable idea, it only came about because the first Transformers toys were miscellaneous toy robot designs that Hasbro licensed from Takara and threw together (with a backstory by Marvel). Besides, the Decepticon Megatron has already been a tank, sportcar(!) and jet fighter, and Soundwave a motorcycle, ICBM launcher and stockcar(!) - look 'em up on tfu.info.

Probably the biggest factor at work is the merchandising factor. There's no way that Hasbro will be able to release a Megatron gun toy (they can't and won't reissue the original gun for a mountain of reasons) - that was the reason why over a decade ago for TF Generation 2, Megatron was a tank instead of a handgun.

even though Thunderbirds is cack anyway, but everyone seems to complain about all the lacking resemblances with Lady Penelopes car. Good that its actually pink ffs

but its a ford? and it flies?

I love Transformers (gen1), and hate everything thats come since that. For the film to impress me, I'll be after the correct names, the right colours, and the right personalities for each character. Any of this new stuff then they can just fuck off and call it "go bots the movie"

But at the same time, I can see a lot of people being after that air of familiarity - Sideswipe and Sunstreaker just have to be Countachs, dammit!

What will be interesting in the coming months is to see which manufacturers etc. jump on the bandwagon and give the go-ahead for their likenesses etc. Wonder if the rights are all tied up or still to play for?

I've just had a horrific Team Knight Rider-style flashback where one manufacturer provides all the vehicles for the Autobots. :)

I've been thinking for ages how they're going to do this - they obviously can't have a huge roster (or an Arrival from Cybertron-style roll call). . or do a big origin story. . so who do you pick? I remember a similarly-themed thread from ages ago where either Guru or Ulala pitched this great potential scene, with the twins screaming across the Golden Gate Bridge (or something) followed in hot pursuit by the jets. I wish.

Roll on 06.

I want lush cinemtaography, a mid 80's Pacific Northwest setting with Mount St Helens as the impact zone of the Ark and a Vince Dicola/Stan Bush soundtrack. Oh and Megatron HAS TO BE A GUN! I don't give a crap if little Timmy can't buy the toy.

Spielberg ain't cool enough to direct this movie.

want a cooler badass director - someone who's down with the kids. Soundwave etc.

blah.

the FX should be kick ass though. CG does metal brilliantly.

But he isn't directing it. He is Exec Producing it. Which means his name will be on the credits and not necessarily much more than that.

[sNIP] Vince Dicola/Stan Bush soundtrack. Oh and Megatron HAS TO BE A GUN! I don't give a crap if little Timmy can't buy the toy.

Get real about the gun thing. No way would Hasbro allow a film company to give Megatron a handgun mode. Not being able to sell a toy of the principle antagonist doesnt make commercial sense, neither does pandering to casual nostalgia fiends.

Oh, and Stan Bush? Talk about unlistenable. Still, slightly better than the cheese-metal that also litters the soundtrack.
