HIGH FUCKING FIVE. I've said it before, but the story to FFVII is like the New Age wankings of a fat Otaku who thinks rabbiting on about life forces and higher purposes is the easy path to literary legend. Whatever happened to good old "boy meets girl, loses girl, saves world, doesn't get to score"?

There's nothing wrong with the story, it's a hell of a lot better than you get in your average manga. It's just written fairly badly. Not bad for a game, but put it right into a film and it'll be laughed at so hard it'll fall over.

I finished it, and the core "boy..." message is lost in a sea of dialogue which would be embarrassing reading if it was in a fanfic, let alone a blockbuster game. If they didn't take the thousand monkeys approach to it, it might have been enjoyable.

Incidentally, I'll agree that Square's melodrama works well in games but their attempted "intrigues" in the English trailer were just embarrasing.

The western version of FFVII is well known to having one of the worst translations, not really the development teams fault but rather the shitty translators at Square USA, luckily Square have greatly improved their translation teams since FFVII (see Vagrant Story and Kingdom Hearts for an example).

Its an ace game, I'm playing it right now, and enjoying it. Better than FFX, thats for sure. And the translation is a bit bad. But so fucking what? Use your imagination. Is not like one of those crappy fake GBA games where in Japanese the guy says "hello friend, thats funny!" and in the tranny it says "HI!¬ HAHA BASTARDWANK!". You can still understand the jokes and plot features.

I'd welcome a remake of FFVII more than a new FF, tbh.
