Controversial film opinions

George Clooney

Recommended Posts

Ever thought something about a film that seemed to completely fly against what everyone else thought? Well, post it here! Or ridicule those with different opinions than yours!! The choice is yours....

I'll start.

Return of the Jedi is the best star wars film

The action in Equilibrium is better than any of the Matrix films

Jackie Chan is better than Bruce Lee

David Lynch is a pretentious cock who makes wierd movies because he cant make decent ones.

Donnie Darko fails as a film because a film that requires you to have read something else (in this case, the theory of time travel which was on the DVD and website) before you can truely understand it is shit.

No-one would like battle royal if it wasnt made with Japanese schoolkids.

Ichi the Killer is the worst film ever made.

That is all for now....

I've been fine for ages and then in the last year almost every single film I've seen goes against the grain. I think the last year of cinema has been dire. Only a few genuinely watchable films (Station Agent, Master and Commander, Eternal Sunshine to name a few). Most of them have been awful, even the lauded ones. Mystic River was the biggest pile of over-emotional shit in years. Spider-Man 2 is on level with the latter Superman films it was so bad. The last 2 Matrix films were plain awful. Finding Nemo was a new low for Pixar. The final 2 Lord of the Rings films were breath-taking unwatchable. In terms of popularity, cinema is peaking. In terms of quality, it hasn't been this low for some time.

Now that is controversial. And utterly ridiculous

  • Alien 3, Ghostbusters II and Hannibal are underrated
  • LOTR is boring and massively overrated*
  • Kill Bill Vol.2 is a much better film than Vol.1
  • The Matrix Revolutions is better than Reloaded (though they're both pretty average)
  • Toy Story is the best CGI film ever made by far. Secondary to this, A Bug's Life and Finding Nemo are shite
  • Austin Powers 1 is great, the sequel is complete crank

* Please note that I've seen FOTR twice, but I've yet to see the extended edition. I've also tried to watch Two Towers, but I couldn't get into it. The films just bore me to death

Johnny Depp deserved to win best actor for Pirates of the Carribean

o/\o

Too right

No. I mean it.

And: (this one's for you Vemsie!)

Speilberg is a better director than Jackson, he just has problems when it comes to endings.

Again I agree with u re Spielberg and his endings, for me personally I thought AI was a crap film just because of that nonsense ending, up to that was an alright movie same with "Catch me if u Can" good but terrible ending trying to evoke an emotion out me. Bollocks.

But sorry he is not a better director than Mr Jackson, Bad Taste, Brain Dead and Heavenly Creatures brill.

The Lord of the Rings films were two of my worst cinema experiences of all time (didn't see the last one)

The Phantom Menace gets better and better each time you see it

The Matrix Reloaded was great, but mucked up by the attrocious Matrix Revolutions

The Assassin is better than La Femme Nikita

Hulk is amazing

Dawn of the Dead (Remake) is easily the best film of the year so far

Ghostbusters has nothing going for it for anyone older than 15

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is tosh

...I'm sure there are loads more

Catch me if You Can was a brilliant film, even with the average ending. High five for Spiel on that number.

Yeah it was good and it was nice to see Leo back on form, but I can't stand the "emotional" endings, it's like he thinks he has to do worthy stuff and it just come across all american, no offence to anyone from those parts

Peter Jackson owns Spielberg and has yet to make a bad movie.

Though I guess this isn't controversial but just the truth.

Spielberg may falter from time to time, but he's still easily among the greatest directors the film world has produced. Jeez, just look at the list: Jaws, Close Encounters, E.T., Raiders, Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan. Those are all untouchable classics, but bubbling underneath them are loads of purely enjoyable, finely crafted films.

I can add Saving Private Ryan to my list of overrated movies. In fact, apart from the battle scenes, it's a shit film. I hate it when directors are forcing emotions down my throat. And Spielberg does it every fucking time these days. How I long for the days of Jaws and Raiders.
