'official Outrun 2 Thread'

At the end of the day, OutRun 2 and Burnout 3 are 2 different types of racing game. If you like them both, buy them both. If you only like one of them, just buy the one you like.

The way things are going, this thread will have to be called "official Outrun2 & Burnout 3 thread"!!!! :)

This may not be the best place to ask - but does anyone know how to access the high-score table you enter your name into when you complete Arcade Mode - other than by completing it again and reading REALLY fast? ? :)

It doesn't appear in the 'attract' sequence and I can't see an option anywhere to access it - which makes it a bit redundant surely?

Otherwise I'm loving this - tho the 'F355 Challenge' engine noise, whilst nice, doesn't suit some of the cars - and it would be nice if it 'echoed' in tunnels etc. etc. - but that's being picky.

OR2 and BO3 alternate in my disc-drawer quite nicely tho - each to his own etc. etc.

OK, so I rented this yesterday (and it's now happily residing on my Yod@box's hard drive :) ), but to be honest, I'm glad I didn;t buy it. While it's definitely worth a rent, it gets real old, real fast. I'm massively disappointed.

It appears after the first couple of attract sequences. Just leave the game running.

It's not ideal but at least its there.

I must say i'm really disliking this game. And i know people are getting the hump with the comparison with burnout 3 but come on. Burnout 3 looks amazing, feels amazing and when i play it a smile constantly. When i play outrun i just feel cheated of a game.

5/10 from me i'm afraid

Anyone found out about the mystery of the Chase cards yet?

I have played the game as each Chase card dictates but nothing happens...

Could it be connected to the equally mysterious code entry section?

I also remember reading in Kikizo that there were some unlockable drivers too - fingers crossed for Ryo, Sonic, Samba, Billy Hatcher and NiGHTs!

but then i'm completely the opposite. Burnout 3 makes me angry with rage but Outrun 2 sedates me into a happy trippy state.

anyway Challenge mode gets hard quite fast.

Cheated?

I quite like the new version of Magical Sound Shower. It is staying very loyal to the original, which is good.

I love the original soundtracks from OutRun. But you can't really do a new game and use old soundtracks, no matter how good they are!

burnout 3 is a mess of game design which doesn't even hold together properly into any form of compulsion or enjoyment. everything you do is rewarded with useless nonsense and unskippable cutscenes, and there isn't a memorable moment in the whole thing. they've even figured out a way of fucking up crash junctions. OR2 is focused. it knows exactly what it's doing, and it does it gloriously.

I guess so, but apart from Life Was A Bore and Night Flight the new music is a bit pants really.

This thread has been particularly entertaining and informative for a few weeks now, with special reference to SOL who has kindly contributed on the odd occasion. Though frankly I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't just fucked off and left due to this banal conversational mediocrity that has manifested throughout the last few pages.

Nah, I am still here. I still find the Burnout / Outrun arguments amusing, but I've been keeping an eye out for anything I feel like commenting on or answering

That and I've spent the weekend fixing various family and friends PC's. So I've not much wanted to look at a monitor for a good few hours.

Yep, I think so. You can unlock the original game though, and play that instead. Or, you can go buy the Saturn Sega Ages packs.

Oh, I'd just download the original's ROM instead. That's probably the best way to play it rather than spend £40 on a 'new version' when you all really want to play the original. Oh yes...

I had 4 'Disc may be dirty or damaged' crashes while playing the SP last night. This was on a sealed copy from Gameplay. Anyone else suffering from this (my Xbox is a launch model)

I haven't had any dirt disc errors yet, mines a launch model as well. Might be a duff copy?

It froze on me online on Friday when I tried to select the setting menu but that's all so far.

I've had some frameskipping and jumpy lag online and very minor slowdown offline.

It just gets better the longer you play it. I thought it would be perfect 5-10 minute get a quick race out of my system type fodder but I haven't booted it up without playinhg for at least two hours since getting it on Friday. All the modes are equally entertaining to me but I think I'm starting to hit a few brick walls in the challenge mode which doies get bastard hard. Live is a little glitchy but still nice 'n' easy to dip in and out of.

The powersliding is the best ever, beating the pants off Namco's pre-determined slides with a very big stick. The feeling of sliding round a long corner whilst moving the car across the road to overtake/avoid clipping the verge is unbeatable.

And I like the other traffic indicating and braking, that's pure Sega detailing. PLus, the fat flag guy really is something else.

Pure gaming joy. And the best £14.97 I've spent in a long time (via a complicated combination of Game price-matching, trade-in and a voucher)...
