There was a time when I would desperately flick through the new Time Out to look at the advance bookings, partly in hope Tom Waits would finally come to London again. And now he has, and only TODAY do I see the full page advert "Tom Waits, Hammersmith Apollo. Tickets on sale LAST FRIDAY".

It's all sold out now, of course, even at £70 a pop. And it would have been a perfect wedding present for my Tom Waits obsessed mate too. Fuck fuck fuck. This is easily worse than an "ODBC SQL server error" losing my Pixies e-tickets when online booking.

Anyway, I blame you lot. I rely on you to tell me about this sort of stuff, and you've all let me down.

Anyone know a good tout? Although if face value is £70 perhaps you'd better tell me about a good remortgage provider too.

<_<;):P

Maybe he'll do another night, what with the incredible demand?

Well my girlfriend informed me this morning that when she saw him in Chicago he added 2 more gigs after the huge demand. Thing is I see he's playing more cities than just London (anyone have a definative tour list?) and it might not be easy to showhorn many extra gigs in. One at most, and even then it'll sell out just as quickly. £70 is a bit steep too. <_<

I think it was the FASTEST SELLING GIG EVAR!!!111

The Pixies acknowledged the UK's love for music [in, er, London] with the Brixton residency. I'm sure Waits is just as skint. I mean, popular.

What's his best album?

You can pretty much buy anything and you'll enjoy it. Personally, I'm not overly keen on the early stuff (Closing Time etc), so I say start with Rain Dogs and work your way through the catalogue at your discretion.

  • 2 months later...

All of you on the gutted list for next Tuesday's gig might like to know that Tom says in this week's Time Out that plans are afoot for SEVERAL WEEKS of London/UK shows in the Spring.

Watch the skies people. This time I want to hear about these dates *before* they are sold out.

Is anyone here actually going to this, then? Because I am, unless I get involved in a rail disaster.

I'll have to check Time Out, because a string of gigs sounds lush. But the man hates being away from home according to recent interviews, so if it hadn't come from his own mouth I'd be sceptical. Fingers crossed...

Bastard. If you *are* involved in a rail disaster, can you get your grieving family to send me your tickets please?

It was an interview with Waits, and although I don't think it was enclosed in quotation marks it was written like he said it. The problem with London, and the reason it's such a long time since he's been here, is that it doesn't have any 2,000 seat venues that are sufficently atmospheric for Tom. He's played Paris and Amsterdam in old cinemas and places like that in recent years, but for some reason he doens't fancy Wembley Arena.

Just travel on the train after mine and you can sift through the wreckage for the ticket. I'll do my level best to die with it in my fist, protruding through the rubble and glinting in the sun.

I only got one because my friend diligently manned the phoneline and website - before I was even aware of the gig. And then he didn't put my ticket on eBay for £600. Think where man's glory most begins and ends...

So this month has been San Andreas -> Halo 2 -> Half Life 2 -> Tom Waits gig. PLUS the quiz show plot on Coronation Street. I think it's safe to say I'll look back and laugh.
