Sony To Launch Pstwo In October?

Please, please be quiet.

How do you know this percentage?  Easy, you don't.

Where are my figures from? Direct from our Sony and Microsoft account managers at work.

I don't have the Microsoft figures with me at the moment (I'm at home), but I do have the Sony ones. Figures I have are from late April, so are out of date admittedly.

1.2m installed of PS2 user base have BB network adapters

105,000 are in PAL territories = 0.4% of SCEE installed user base (which includes Australia).

As said, don't have the Microsoft figures to hand, but from memory they were at least four times that (as a percentage. As I originally said, in physical numbers there are more PS2 network adapters than Xbox Live kits).

Lack of quality? No community? SOCOM II is the most played online console game, thousands play it every day in the US. There must be some kind of community. Add to that the community in Everquest. And the one in Final Fantasy XI. It's not nearly as bad as you make out.

In terms of community, I mean the network as a whole, not within individual titles.

Xbox Live titles, due to the shared XDK that most developers used (and through Microsoft-enforced developer standards) can talk to each other. So you can send invites to mates to join you, no matter which title they're currently playing. I've not seen PS2 titles produced by different publishers that actually recognise each other.

Xbox Live kinda feels like a club or a gang. You connect to "Xbox Live", not just the online section of the particular PS2 game your're playing. Sony are trying to establish this through Central Station/NGS, but it's not a standard, and not a requirement for developers, so is less likely to be adopted.

Xbox Live just is just a much more thoroughly designed system.

Just a pity their console looks like a dark-green breeze-block.

Wait until the re-design!

It'll be the size of an A4 sheet of paper.

But half as thick

I really have no idea. I'm just passing the info on.

It sounds pretty good if true (soooo small). I guess we'll find out in a few hours.

The DNAS quotes make it sound genuine, or at least written by someone who knows a little about what they're talking about rather.

Call me shallow and vain, but it really is the only thing keeping me from buying an Xbox now! Especially after having played Burnout 3 at work today

.::: If you don't mind the music you really should get Burnout 3 for the PS2, one of the few multiplatform games that actually looks better on PS2.

You didn't say that to start with, but then again, it doesn't mean that there's no community there, just because there's no interaction between different titles. You can organise games you know.

FFXI and Everquest makes you feel more of a gang because of the MMORPG traits they both have. This makes more of a community than any Xbox Live title (or all of them), as you have to work together etc etc.

Where? I've put about 20 hours into the PS2 version and theres none that I've seen (unlike the horrible NFSU2 demo, that runs about 10 fps).

.::: NEVER EVER MENTION NFSU2 AGAIN WITHOUT A WARNING!

I might puke...

PS2 version is sharper more colourful and has terrific contrast, whereas the Xbox version seems like an fogged up N64-attempt* in comparison.

*: exaggeration, but you can catch my drift** here.

**: Made a funny.

Really? Ooooh! Mebbe I'll get me that as I do have a PS2. Just kinda assumed it'd look a bit pants on PS2 in comparison. Me of little faith!

I'm more interested to know the tech specs of it now. If it has RGB DVD output then I'll grab one. It does look nice, but not really anything aesthetically mind blowing, as in essence, it simply looks like a standard PS2 who lost a fight with a steam roller.

I've not played the Xbox version, but the PS2 version is one of the best looking games on the system and knocks out a fantastic 60fps.

I'll admit at this point that I'm playing the NTSC version.

.::: Fear not! Burnout 3 is probably the only PS2 EA game in existence with a PAL 60Hz option!
